Brielle recognizes Colton as her long-lost friend, but this now single mom doesn’t want to spoil the moment. Keeping her identity a secret is risky, but Bree just wants a night to live a little. She’s had a thing for Colton since they were kids. 

“I couldn’t believe I just told him that. The only logical explanation I could come up with was that Colton had fucked me senseless.”

Colton and Ellie have some serious chemistry! Once again with this series, the author knows how to capture the hot and sensual details. 

“The first lick made me gasp. The second swipe had me gripping the headboard so hard my knuckles turned white.” 

Told via Colton and Ellie’s alternating first person POV, this was a very engaging story with just the right blends of steam, humor, sweetness, and bittersweet. 

“‘I need you to know that I love every part of you, Ellie….Now get that pussy on my face.’”

Both Colton and Ellie were great characters. Though Ellie sometimes let her past heartbreaks cause her doubt, she was still a strong female character and very likable—realistic and genuine, the type of person you’d want as your friend in real life. I loved how Colton never gave up on what he wanted. Just like Travis in the first book, Colton turns out to be a total book boyfriend. Speaking of the sexy trucker Travis, he and Angel make appearances, but this can still be easily read as a standalone. 

I also appreciated how much the story seemed to stress the importance of communication, which is so critical in any relationship. If you’re looking for your next sweet and sexy romance, then this is certainly one to read. Oh and make sure you have Guns n’ Roses “Pretty Tied Up” on stand-by. That whole scene is totally adorable!

My attention was snagged by a girl in the cage on the opposite side of the room because a guy had approached her. He tried to stick his hand through the bars, obviously intent on copping a feel. A bouncer quickly intervened, steering the intoxicated man over to a less crowded area.

Through body language and hand gestures, I could tell the bulky security guard was explaining that touching the girls was against the rules.

Drunk Dude huffed, gave the dancer one last lingering look, then staggered over to the bar.

My eyes trailed back over to the girl who was still moving around as though nothing happened and, suddenly, I couldn’t look away. I was captivated.

Not because she was hot—and she was hot—but because she was smiling. A big, genuine smile.

Her movements kept in time with the peppy beat of ‘Vacation’ by the Go-Go’s as she started hopping around.

Her big ‘80s-styled hair flew through the air as she spastically tilted her head from side to side. The long chocolate strands whipped around the confines of the cage and I swear I could see her laughing.

She was having fun. She loved this.

The jean shorts she had on were so short that I could see her ass cheeks hanging out of the bottom and my eyes traveled down her toned legs, then back up. Her waist was tiny and she had an hourglass shape with full breasts, which were jiggling with her every move.

This was entertainment.

Not only was this girl gorgeous and sexy—she was also goofy as fuck. She did some sort of head-banging move before twirling around like a ballerina.

She was still grinning and her chest shook with giggles. I could almost imagine what it would sound like to hear her laugh.

And as I watched, I found myself laughing along.

I felt a familiar tightness in my jeans and was beyond shocked when I glanced down to find myself stiff as a board.

Q1. Your bio mentions that you grew up on a farm in Illinois surrounded by cornfields.  Is the small town, rural area of Tolson in the books similar to your hometown?

A. Yes. Tolson is based on a real town about 5 minutes away from my childhood home. And the summer festival that takes place in Trucker is a real event, golf carts and all!

Q2. What’s your favorite part about writing contemporary romance, and do you have a favorite scene from any the books?

A. My favorite part about writing is taking a story I want to read and making it into a book. It's hard to play favorites with my scenes! Haha. I love them all. If I had to choose one from each book, I would say it would be when my couples first meet each other.

Q3. I loved how you took professions that society has a tendency to look down upon and turned them around to depict fully developed character who defied their stereotypes. What was your inspiration for this series, and were any of the characters based on people you know in real life?

A. I decided to write about truckers because it wasn't something a lot of people have done. Before I wrote my first book, Trucker, I tried to find a romance about a hitchhiker who fell in love with the person who picked her up, but I couldn't find it. I kept thinking, someone should write that! Truckers and mechanics are sexy too, right? As for my characters being based off of people I know in real life--some are, including Beverly and Colton.

Q4. If Trucker and Dancer were to be made into a movie, who might you envision playing the lead couples?

A. If Trucker and Dancer were made into a movie, this is how I would envision the cast of characters-

Travis- Chase Crawford

Angel- Chloe Grace Moretz

Colton- Paul Walker (Although PW is no longer living 💔 he would have made a perfect Colton.)

Brielle- Vanessa Hudgens

Q5. Any hints at what readers can look for next? Can you spill how Dropout will fit into The Good Guys series? 

A. Here's BIG hint for book 3. If you read A Trucker Christmas, the five-chapter charity project releasing soon, you'll get to (briefly) meet Jimmy, the male character in Dropout. He's the "baddest" of the guys in the series, but still a good guy at heart.

~Book Review~

Shane is the badass. He’s a no-commitment navy SEAL guy. Cassie isn’t interested in anything serious either. She’s a grad student studying Marine Biology.  When a sea lion (yes I said sea lion) brings them together this book is off to a hot, dirty (read super steamy) start.

Shane rocks the cocky, alpha bad boy hero role.  

“I could hold my breath for five minutes—a useful skill for stalking pirates. Also came in handy when eating pussy.”

Cassie, meanwhile, is sweet, shows a vulnerable side, but is also feisty. That makes a fun female lead.

“If people fell in love, they fell in love. There was nothing Mr. Super SEAL could do about that. Suck it up, Sand-Boy.”

Though they think their worlds are only going to collide for one sexy night, it turns out they are about to get more…familiar. As in family familiar. Related!  But before things become too incestuous, the pair attempts to get it all out of their system before their parents wed in Mexico.  

This book has one of my favorite things. Hangman time: First word start with an R_ _ _. Second word starts with a T_ _ _.  Road trip!   

“’We take the bike. You can be my old lady for a few days. Yeah. I love that idea.’”

The sexy times go on the road for an adventure that will either fill their erotic scrapbooks or bring them closer together.  Unfortunately, there was one attempted incident on the trip that crops up in fiction far too often for my tastes. Sigh. I won’t go into a long spiel to avoid spoilers and thankfully it is just a close call.  

Movin’ right along…. Overall this was a fun, sexy story about two ‘no time for relationships’ people finding their way. And despite their non-committal mantra, I was relieved that this story was just about the two of them.  As far as the dynamics of their relationship goes, it’s not just the whole forbidden step-sibling thing that stands in their way; Cassie and Shane must address the reasons behind their own commitment issues and a few hang-ups on Shane’s end.  Which, he was actually kind of funny in regards to his distaste and discomfort with the rich. It made the tough guy a little vulnerable too.

In regards to the whole step-sibling ting, it was nice to see the parents addressed/developed as sometimes they are a bit over-looked in some step-sibling tales. But that is not the case here. Even though Cassie and Shane are adults, the authors do a nice job of showing their feelings in regards to their parents getting remarried and the personal responses that raises for them. They don’t come off selfish or immature; simply adult children with real feelings in regards to their family and past.  

Told via Cassie and Shane’s alternating first person point of view, it’s easy to understand both characters.  And as far as chemistry goes, their sexual attraction oozes off the page. And by the last page, I still couldn’t get enough of them.

Cassie: The naughty answer is that before Shane, I wouldn’t have wanted to live without my BOB, but now I don’t need it! But seriously, I love the ocean. I want to live where I can hear the sound of the waves while Shane and I are making love. That was one of the things I loved about our road trip!

Shane: Cassie’s pussy. And my Gerber tactile tool. Has blades, scissors, pliers. Perfect for torturing terrorists, or anyone who harasses my woman.

Q2. I’ll do anything to avoid….

Cassie: Earthquakes! I guess that’ll be hard now that I live in California, but I hope I’m never again so close to the epicenter of a Big One.

Shane: Talking about my feelings. Even to Cassie. Not gonna happen.

Cassie: My curiosity, I think. I love to learn about new people and new things. Of course, that gets me into trouble sometimes, too.

“5 Questions with Alana Albertson & Linda Barlow”

Q1. The story flowed seamlessly. Your writing styles must blend well. How did you two come together as a writing team? And how do you divide up the writing/editing, etc work?

Linda: First of all, thank you so much! We worked hard to get our writing to blend, going over and over each scene until we got it right. We brainstormed the overall plot and the various scenes together, working out the problems as much as we could in advance. Since we have both our main characters’ points of view, we split it up so that Alana wrote Shane’s chapters and I wrote Cassie’s.

Occasionally we switched, if one of us knew more about a particular subject. We each went over the other’s chapters and offered suggestions for changes or improvements. Then we looked at the book as a whole and fixed everything that didn’t seem to work.

As for how we met, Alana and I have an internet romance! We met online, and one of these days we hope to meet in person, but we live 3000 miles away from each other. We both like smart, fast-paced, sexy books with solid plots and sympathetic characters, so that’s what we tried to write. We both welcome criticism if it makes our writing better, so we could be honest with each other about anything in the book that didn’t quite click. We edited and re-wrote a lot of stuff until we both felt it was right.

Alana: All true! Linda answered my email to join a paranormal Christmas anthology I was putting together. I was so star struck since she’d won a RITA (romance equivalent of the Oscar). She’s such an amazing writer and my own writing has grown so much since working with her. I’m honored to cowrite a book with her. Writing Badass with her was like taking a master class.

Q2. Shane is quite the drool-worthy hero, though demanding and cocky of course. What was your inspiration for his character? Was he purely fictional or based on a real SEAL?

Linda: I’ll let Alana answer that one.

Alana: Uh, I plead the fifth. No seriously, in my 20s I dated a Navy SEAL who was an instructor at BUD/S. Shane is an amalgamation of many SEALs I met, as well as my dream badass hero.

Q3. I was struck by a lot of the details of their road trip and their professions. How much research did you have to do for the story? Have either of your traveled their Baja journey route?

Linda: I have traveled extensively in Mexico, and one of my earlier novels is set there, but I haven’t taken that particular road trip. I watched a whole lot of YouTube videos of folks on motorcycles who traveled through the Baja peninsula to get a feel for what each day on the road would be like. I also spent a lot of time researching wilderness survival and how to find water in the desert.

As for Cassie’s profession, I’ve done graduate work in biology myself so I know a lot about fish and marine biology. I also used to go trout fishing in Montana, so I know Molly and Shane’s hometown and the Big Horn River, where Molly is a fishing guide.

Alana: I live in San Diego and have driven to Tijuana, Ensenada, Puerto Nuevo, and Cabo. As for the SEAL research, all of that came from my personal experience dating a Team guy.

Q4. Do you each have a favorite scene?

Linda: I love how Cassie and Shane first met. I also have a couple of favorite scenes that are in the second half of the book, but I don’t want to spoil anything. I’m a huge fan of all Alana’s Shane scenes, though. He is SO hot!

Alana: Thanks Linda! I adore Cassie! She’s a strong, smart, kickass chick. My favorite scene is when Cassie sees Shane schooling the BUD/S candidates. BUD/S training is such a hot, sexually charged, masculine environment. Picture 200 hot, wet, and sandy men on the beach. I felt it was a great way for Cassie to get a taste of what Shane did for a living.

Q5. What new projects are on the horizon for both of you? Will Badass be a stand-alone or can readers expect more books? Perhaps some featuring Shane’s colleagues or trainees where we might get future glimpses of Shane and Cass? (That might be a not so subtle hint. lol)

Linda: We are hoping to do at least two more sexy romances together, tentatively titled Hardass and Kickass. But they are in the planning stages. I also write contemporary romance (TheDangerous Hero, Uncover Me) and shifter romance (TheZrakon’s Bride, The Zrakon’s Curse). I wrote a novella, My Mile-High Mistake, for the Summer Fire anthology which is about to launch on May 26, and I have a novel coming out in July for the Bad Boy Alphas series of paranormal romances.

Alana: I love writing with Linda and can’t wait for our next two projects. As for Shane’s buddies, all of them have books out or planned. Pat is the hero of Invincible. Grant is the hero of the Seven Deadly SEALs Serial, the first one Conceit is out now, Chronic will be out next month, with the final 5 to follow this summer. And Kyle’s book Invaluable will be out in June. I promise Shane will make cameos!

Cameron Noble, known to his fans as Cameron Knight, is the guitarist in a Texas rock band, Caged. Feel free to get starry eyed though because Cameron is such a cutie, and while he didn’t used to do the dating thing, he sure is sweet, sexy, and chivalrous about it when he meets Lily Tennison.

Lily might just be Cameron’s match. Though her job puts her at his disposal, she often gets the upper hand on him. I chuckled out loud at the personal shopping part. Lily is smart, talented, and sweet. Her socialite parents have disowned her for switching majors and her stress induced speech impediment is an embarrassment to her mother.

“‘Maybe the words don’t come because they don’t want to leave those beautiful lips any more than I do.’”

Ahhh. Take a moment to swoon a little more at Cameron. Need another moment? Try a glimpse at a frustrated but very turned-on Cameron:

“‘I swear, Lily. I will tie you up if you don’t quit.’ I trudged toward the first group of lights. Telling her I wouldn’t f*ck her was not only a lie. It was a damn lie. It would be a miracle if we made it to her front door and a bigger miracle if we made it to a bed.”

I read this story when I was suffering from not one but two book hang-overs, and this was a great cure! It’s cute, sexy, and light-hearted. It’s told entirely from Cameron’s first person POV, and is a great start to the Sixth Street Band series. 

Are Cameron and Lily simply “killing time” together or can Cameron swallow his fears and make it something more permanent?

If you enjoy rocker romances, you’ll want to make sure to be one-clicking a copy of this one. Cameron is easily book boyfriend material, and Lily is a very likable heroine that you root for.  I hope to see more of them in future books.

Ch 2: When Cameron Knight Meets Lily

[The band has arrived at their hotel, a special arrangement due to over-eager paparazzi.]

My gaze fell on the figure that exited through the wooden doors a few yards away. Her blond hair swung from side to side, mimicking the sway of her hips. A smile played across her lips, crinkling the corners of her piercing blue eyes. My heart nearly stopped.

“Dude, close your mouth.” Sean knocked shoulders with me when he stepped to my side.

Giving him a sidelong glance, I saw Logan smiling appreciatively at the girl, looking her up and down. No way. Stepping away from them, I nearly knocked her over in my attempt to reach her before she got caught in Logan’s crosshairs.

Startled, she looked up at me, tucking a wisp of hair behind her ear. Fuck me, the girl was hot. Taking off my sunglasses, I gave her the most seductive grin I could muster.

Nothing.

“Mr. Noble?” She glanced down at the paperwork in her hand without acknowledging my lame attempt at flirtation. “Knight, actually.” I was hoping for a glimmer of

I was Cameron Noble. At least that’s what my birth certificate said. But I dropped that shit as soon as Caged had a single on the charts, changing my name to Knight. My old man, Tyler Noble, the drunk that chased fame his whole life, was not going to get a nod of acknowledgment from me for anything I achieved.

“But you can call me Noble.” Not to be deterred by her cool demeanor, I quirked a brow and leaned in. “Or anything else you want, as long as you say it with a smile.”

Laughing nervously, she stuck out her hand. “I’m Lily Tennison. I’ll be your personal events coordinator while you’re here.”

Taking her hand, I squeezed it gently. “I like the sound of that.”

She took a step back, slipping her hand free. “Your brother explained the situation. If you would follow me to my office, I’d be happy to go over a list of the amenities and services we offer here at The Mansion. I’ll also take care of any special requests you might have.” Looking over my shoulder at Logan and Sean, she gave them a cheery smile. “Gentlemen, welcome to The Mansion.”

Turning, she walked briskly toward the building, ignoring the snickers that erupted from our group.

“Special requests?” Logan chuckled, lowering his tone to nearly a whisper. “I’ve got her special request—right here.” He grabbed his crotch, waggling his brows at me.

Slapping him on the back of the head, I followed her into the lobby, putting some distance between me and the two asshats I was with. The guys couldn’t hold it together for one fucking minute without acting like horny teenagers.

My cock stirred when the slit up the back of Lily’s pencil skirt opened as she walked, showing a nice expanse of her silky thighs. Scowling, I looked down at my boots. Logan and Sean might have been acting like horny teenagers, but I was the one sporting a hard-on. Perfect.

The lobby was decorated with huge vases of freshly cut flowers and cushy, leather chairs with side tables made of rich, dark wood. Following Lily past the polished marble front desk, I noticed a number of guests staring in our direction.

“Over here we have our lounge and our steakhouse.” Lily looked over her shoulder, giving a nod in the direction of the dimly lit space. “They are open for dinner only. Per your brother’s request, I’ve secured a chef to take care of your meals, en suite. However, you can order anything off the menu and have it delivered, if you prefer.”

Nodding, I kept my eyes trained on her face, hoping my cock would go into hibernation. Lily’s tongue darted out, sweeping her lip when she looked down at her paperwork. A perfect, pink tongue. Caressing the softest, pinkest lips I’d ever seen in my life.

She disappeared ahead of us, turning down a hallway where the executive offices were housed. I took the opportunity to stick my hand in my pocket and adjust my erection.

“You got a problem there, son?” Logan clapped my shoulder as he strode past me.

“Mind your own damn business,” I muttered, moving to his side. “And stop with the fucking sex jokes.”

Logan gave me a sidelong glance, peering at me over his sunglasses. “Dude, I’m not the one with the semi.”

Rolling my eyes, I stepped through the door of Lily’s large office. A leather sofa was pushed against the wall. Three winged chairs with rich upholstery sat in front of the large cherry desk. Oil paintings and other artwork hung on every wall. I wandered over to a group of four charcoal sketches next to the window.

A large “L” with a small flower dotted the right-hand corner of each one. The gritty cityscapes didn’t match the rest of the office’s motif.

“These are really nice.” I nodded appreciatively, leaning in closer to examine the details before turning to her.

“Um, t-thanks,” she stammered. The crease in her brow grew more pronounced when she noticed me looking at her. She dropped her eyes to the paperwork on her desk. I grinned, ambling over to take a seat in the winged chair in front of the desk.

“I’ve taken the liberty of contacting a personal shopper at Neiman Marcus.” She lifted her gaze, taking in our tattered jeans and t-shirts. “If you could provide me with your sizes, I’ll have some things brought over for you until you can retrieve your luggage from the Omni.”

“Is there something wrong with the way we’re dressed?” Logan removed his sunglasses, leaning forward and propping his elbows on his knees.

“Absolutely not.” She shifted in her seat. “I assumed since you didn’t have any clean clothes, you might want to order a few things. It’s totally up to you. There’s no dress code on the property, with the exception of the hotel dining area.”

Clasping her hands on top of the paperwork on her desk, she gave us a sincere smile. “Look, y’all, I’m here to help. I’m sorry to hear about your friend.” Her gaze fell on mine, holding it for a second. “Is he all right, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Fine,” I said, studying the blue depths of her irises. “Just a little banged up.”

She nodded sympathetically. “Let me get this paperwork out of the way. I’m sure you’ve had a trying day.”

Turning to the computer on the side table, she punched in the information from the sheet of paper on her desk. A few minutes later she stood, handing each of us a fat envelope.

“It was nice to meet y’all.” She extended a hand to Logan, and then to Sean. “Please let me know if I can be of any assistance during your stay. The bungalows are out back, at the far end of the property. Would you like me to call for a cart to take you there?”

“I’m sure we’ll manage,” Logan said with a chuckle, giving her a wide grin. “Thanks for all your help.”

He nodded at Sean, who thanked Lily as well before following Logan out of the office. She stepped around the desk and clasped her hands in front of her. I waited until the guys were out of earshot and closed the distance between us.

“So what do you do for fun around here?”

That perfect, pink tongue darted out again. I assumed she wasn’t aware of what she was doing, but I couldn’t tear my gaze from her lips. An arc of electricity flowed between us, drawing me to her like a magnet.

“Um...” She trailed off, seeming unsure of her words. “I’ve enclosed this brochure in the envelope I gave you. We have—”

“I mean, what do you do for fun, Lily?” Placing a hand on her arm, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. Definitely electricity.

Staring at me for a moment, her arm dropped limply to her side. “I work.” She smiled up at me. “And I go to school. I don’t have much time for fun.”

With that, she stepped toward the door, holding it open. Nodding, I shoved the envelope in my back pocket, leaning toward her on my way out. She smelled just like the freshly cut flowers in the lobby. Like a spring day.

“That’s a shame, Lily. Everyone could use a little fun.”

It took a shitload of self-control not to look back when I sauntered down the hallway.

Before I made it five steps, the door clicked shut behind me.

5 Questions with Jayne Frost

Q1. How did you get started writing, and what is your favorite part of the writing process?

A. I can’t remember a time I didn’t write. I clearly remember writing my first little book when I was ten. I used yarn to hold the pages together! My favorite part of the writing process is the spark. The idea. I write all kinds of notes on the characters; who they are, what the do. And the story develops from there.

Q2. What real life bands do you follow?  Did you have a playlist while writing Gone for You?

A. Wow. There are so many. I love all kinds of music. Right now, I’m really into Shinedown. I look at songs as three or four minute stories. Of course, if Pearl Jam or Nirvana is on when I pull my car in the garage, I’m sitting in the car until the song is over. And I live in Las Vegas…where it’s 100 degrees in the shade. THAT’S commitment!

Q3. What was your inspiration for Cameron and Lily’s characters and/or their story?

A. I wanted to write a romantic book about Rock and Roll that was a little different. Instead of one band, I wanted a group of bands. The 6th Street Bands. I decided to introduce the series outside of Austin, and use the band Caged as a newcomer to this group of really popular bands already on the scene. Cameron is the creative force behind Caged, and Lily is the  lucky girl he takes back to Austin!

Q4. Do you have a favorite scene from the book?

A. I have so many! I really like the scene at the ballet. I think you get a good understanding of Lily’s background. Also, you see how much Cameron cares for her.

Q5. What can you tell or tease readers about the next book in the Sixth Street Band series? Will future books be on the other members of Caged?

A.  Next stop: Austin! The members of Caged will be back, and I will introduce the rest of the 6th Street bands. The last Chapter in Gone for You gives some pretty big clues as to where the series is headed. There are several books planned for this series.

All I can say is look out for Logan Cage. HOT! And definitely worth the wait.

So…who is Jayne?

As a writer, you would think that would be a simple question…but it’s not. I spend so much time living in my characters heads, listening to their voices, that sometimes I forget about my own.

I guess I should start with the basics: the backstory. I was born and raised in California. At this point, I’m usually asked what it was like to grow up near the beach, but sadly, I don’t know. I grew up in the “other” part of California. Perfect for an aspiring writer, if you ask me. You learn a lot about keeping yourself busy when the nearest house is a mile away…and it belongs to your grandparents.

I spent all my time with my nose in a book, living vicariously through the characters, until I wrote a book of my own. I was ten at the time. It was a scintillating piece that cast the family pet as the protagonist.By the time I went to high school, I moved on to romance. Why? Because I met my very own prince charming. I wrote love poems in my journal about the green-eyed boy who stole my heart. He promised, the way all storybook heroes do, to sweep me away and take me on a grand adventure. And he did.We picked up and moved to the Lone Star State and began the story of us. The best stories begin without a road map or a compass. Veering off course makes the journey so much more interesting.

True to form, just when I thought my life was set, we started the next adventure. I traded in my cowboy boots and followed my green-eyed boy to Las Vegas. My home will always be in Texas, but my heart is anywhere that he is. Our beautiful daughter made the journey with us. Our son stayed in Texas, to write his own story.

Somehow, in the midst of the chaos that is our life, I find time to write. Writing is what I love. I might stray from romance every now and then if that is what moves me…but I always come back. Some of the stories don’t seem romantic at all. They are gritty stories about flawed characters that find each other and hold on tight. Those are the stories that speak to me. Because that’s life. REVIEW/INTERVIEW: Hate F*@k by Ainsley Booth

“‘Is this what you want Hailey? You want some dirty sex with someone you don’t have to look at ever again?’

‘I’m pretty sure the f*@ked up track record of my family guarantees I’m going to have to see you again.’”

And that right there really captures the essence of Hailey and Cole’s situation. J

Though trying to live the average life, Hailey Reid originates from an upper class socialite family that has a penchant for getting knee deep in public scandals. Lucky for the Reids, or maybe not so lucky for Hailey, Cole Parker is part of The Horus Group, a management company in the Washington, DC area that seems to specialize in bailing the rich and famous out of PR nightmares and dirty little scandals.

Cole is the total sexy, cocky, jaded, take-what-he-wants, mysterious, ex-Navy SEAL, protector. Did I get enough adjectives in there for you to get the picture? It’s a pretty tempting package.  And it has Hailey breathless for him even though a part of her can’t stand him.

Hailey is the "good-girl," though she has quite a few bad girl thoughts about Cole. Still Cole knows he shouldn’t get involved. Off the bat, I enjoyed their banter and the way she pushed his buttons. You can feel the drawl between them. Though I really wished Hailey would stop obsessing about her body. That was a bit of a turn-off. I’m hoping that the drama that unfolds in the coming volumes makes her forget about her curves, thighs, and rear. Now on the flip side, there are definitely parts of Cole that could be obsessed about in further detail with no complaints here ;-) He’s certainly the allure of the story, a character with many layers and harboring some possibly off the record secrets. Thus there’s an intrigue aspect of the plot in finding out just how far he’ll go. I couldn’t decide myself what Cole and his group are totally up to or when he’s lying though his teeth with Hailey, but it feels safe to assume he’ll deliver the adventure, sex-appeal, and possibly danger (why is he packing three guns?... but dang that was somehow sexy when he stripped out of them) as the plot progresses.  

Told via Cole and Hailey’s alternating first person POV, this is a stimulating start as the first volume in the Hate F*@k serial. It’s an easy one to devour in one sitting, and packs a fun, flirty punch of sexual tensions, sexy encounters, intrigue, and plenty of drama to come.

Author Interview: 5 Questions with Ainsley Booth

Q1. Let’s discuss the big eye catcher first—the title! It’s very unique as far as titles go and already has people talking. Having now read the story I understand how it comes into play, but what can you tell readers about how you chose it or came up with it? 

A1: Under a different name, I write contemporary and military romance, and one day I was talking to my critique partner about a plot point, and whether or not angry sex would be appropriate or not. The title flashed in my mind, and I said, "Uhm, I have to go make a book cover..." It was one of those high-concept ideas that excited me from the beginning, but I was nervous, too.

So it started with the title, and the cover, and then I spent a few months thinking about how to write a romance--that builds toward something quite the opposite of hate--and still capture the intensity that a provocative title deserves.

Q2.  Hate F*@k  incorporates plenty of heated encounters, some political intrigue, scandal—What was your inspiration for the plot of this serial?  

A2: I'm fascinated by the idea of crisis management firms, and the people they work for, so the plotting started with the four guys in The Horus Group and grew from there.

Q3. So tell us a little bit about the direction of the series. When can readers expect volumes 2 and 3, and will we see the rest of the guys of The Horus Group get their own stories? They all sound like pretty interesting guys. 

A3: Hate F*@k  is a three part serial, as you've said, and all three parts will come out in the late winter/early spring of 2015. February/March/April release dates. And then yes, there are three other men who have interesting stories... I'm not sure when I'll write them, that's probably a question of demand and my other writing commitments, but once Hate F*@k  wraps up, I'll start to think about Tag and Jason and Wilson and the women that could bring them to their knees. I mean, make them fall in love. ;)

Q4. Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into writing? Who are some of your favorite authors? 

A4: I'm a long time romance reader--big fan of Robyn Carr, Jill Shalvis, Victoria Dahl, Lori Foster, etc.-- and I've been writing contemporary romance for two years. Last year I read a lot of awesome serials from authors like Deborah Bladon, Lexi Ryan, Kati Wilde and Whitney Gracia Williams, and they've definitely influenced this turn in my writing.

When I'm not reading and writing, I'm a mom and a wife. 

Q5. Tell us a little about your writing process. What are your favorite aspects? What parts do you find the most challenging?

A5: Favorite parts are writing the beginning and end, those fly out of my fingers. And I really enjoy editing and massaging the words to paint exactly the picture I'm trying to convey. The most difficult for me is dragging myself through the middle of the book, keeping the pacing up and not getting too explainy.
