Matt wants in, and he can be very persuasive. He will do anything to ruffle Felicia’s feathers and she will stop at nothing to hide how much she enjoys it every time he does. He refuses to surrender until she caves and gives him what he wants; what he’s wanted all this time. Her. When the pair reunite, their chemistry explodes off the charts, but can Felicia harness her frozen emotions and resist him? Although Matt comes armed with all the right words, can he prove to her that she means more to him than another weekend rendezvous? Witness the power struggle and see who comes out on top.

BOOK REVIEW/INTERVIEW: Sociopath by Lime Craven

If you enjoy a slightly dark and very twisted read that is quite unpredictable, this one should definitely be on your TBR list. This was such an engaging page-turner I wish I would have picked it up sooner. Check out the blog's review, author interview, and character interview....

Book Review:

 4.5 Stars

Aeron Lore is a young success, the leader of Lore Incorporated, a huge media company, and currently obsessed with acquiring SilentWitn3ss, an up and coming surveillance product, as well as it’s owner, Leontine Reeves. Oh and Aeron Lore is also a sociopath!

Initially he didn’t quite strike me as how I’d envision a true sociopath to be. He seemed more adjusted perhaps than what I envisioned.  Out of curiosity (I know, it killed the cat), I did a little googling (because it’s just been too many years for me to remember specifics of any college psych classes I took), and low and behold I found he more or less did fit the profile.

MD Health.com defines it as a “mental health condition in which a person has a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others.”

Hmmm. Yep, sounds a lot like Aeron though he’s learned to hide or conform to some degree as taught by his equally if not more psycho mother. If you’ve ever watched the Showtime drama Dexter, you might notice similarities between how Dexter’s adoptive father “trained” him or channeled his tendencies and the way Aeron’s mother has “raised” (and I use that word loosely) him. And I thought this even before his assistant Tuija was watching the show ;-)  But doubtful Mrs. Lore had any good intentions with her handling of young Aeron. As far as spectrums go for her, she’s bordering on that Norma Bates line, the very far end from June Cleaver.

But back to the story. Aeron is a busy man— playing guardian to his little brother, running a huge corporation, trying to squash his completion, woo Leo, and keep the jealousy of his fake girlfriend in check. Although to be clear, Aeron may be many things but he’s not a man-whore. On the contrary he’s monogamous and very selective about his women, though his brand of kink may not turn most women on.  It’s original as far as contemporary erotic romance plots go—I can’t say I’ve read one with this predilection before.
“When it comes to smart, gorgeous women, I not only hit the jackpot—I rammed it repeatedly with the business end of a sharp stick.”
Meanwhile, Leo has some secrets of her own, and here’s where the intrigue builds and the romance (using this term lightly too) comes into play.  Aeron takes a "unique" approach to seduction, in a sociopath fashion with his own style of romantic gestures and mostly for his own gain.  This is one twisted love affair where even the hearts and flowers are warped! The story is very intriguing, and while the subject matter is “dark” the majority of the story somehow still felt “light,” largely in part to Aeron’s witty first person POV that kept even the heavy stuff entertaining.

That is until the end when the twists start piling up, one in particular that I found particularly gut-wrenching, and then the darkness really starts creeping in. And by the end you’ll be left gaping and definitely questioning your own definitions of sane and psycho.

Aeron probably won’t become one of your dreamy “book boyfriends.” He’s just not sweet, warm, or fuzzy like that. But as a character and a narrator he’s extremely intriguing. And the plot—a real page turner—has plenty of elements of humor, suspense, and some WTF moments.

Aeron’s banter with Tuija is priceless.  She’s a great supporting female character that I really adored.
“‛It’s like Stockholm Syndrom, but the office version.’”
Adding to the witty factor, the book includes definitions as the beginning of each chapter that are fitting, funny, and thought-provoking:
"Trust (noun): the warm fuzzy realization that you have way too much dirt on someone for them to f*ck you over."
Had I actually read this in 2014 before making up my top book list of the year, I would have most likely included it, and if it weren’t for the reading interruptions from my kids and hubby I would say I couldn’t put it down. Admittedly it may not be for everyone. You’ll need to enjoy unconventional romances, appreciate psychological stream of conscious narration, ditch any notions of unicorns and rainbows, and enjoy erotica. But relish in the fact that it’s not a cookie cutter story, far from predictable, pushes boundaries, and makes you really think twice about the characters.  This well done psychological romantic thriller with taboo elements is full of excitement and a fun twisted ride.

There’s no cliffhanger but there will be a second book, Sociopath:Legacy

Till then enjoy the blog’s interview with author Lime Craven, as well as an exclusive character interview with Aeron and Leontine where Aeron reveals his mermaid fantasy! Therapists are standing by ;-)

Author Interview: 5 Questions with Lime Craven

Q1.  Let’s talk writing in general first. How did you get started writing? How long have you been writing? And can you tell us a little about your writing process?

I’ve been writing all my life—I studied English Lit and Creative Writing at university—but it was around eight years ago that I first started to write novels with the intention of getting published, just after my daughter was born. I’m a very eclectic reader and that spills over into my work.

My writing process very much reflects my binge-happy personality. My brain is a little like a coffee grinder, and any idea spends a long time “percolating” before I sit down to write. I will quite often just think about a novel for a few months, feel it out in my head, then sit down and binge-write it in a month. Then of course you have to revise.

Q2.  What do you feel is the biggest challenge when writing either in general or when writing Sociopath?

How long do you have?! In a lot of ways, Sociopath was an easier write than other projects of mine. I’d try to write alpha male types, but I’d get a little way in and just HATE him and think, “No, the way I’m writing him, he’s too much of a sociopath.” One night, I thought, “what the hell? Let’s just write a full-on, balls-deep-in-dark sociopath.” So I guess what I’m saying is that I find writing normal, balanced human beings really hard. Erm.

Q3.  What was your inspiration for Aeron’s character?  As evident in your Author Notes as well as through the depth to the character, you obviously did your research. Were you inspired from a real life story/newspaper article? Someone you know? Or pure imagination?  You did a fabulous job with the male point of view too. How did you get inside Aeron’s head?

I’m glad you liked Aeron (if, indeed, “like” is the right word for a guy like him). I did a lot of sociopath research because Aeron’s perspective is so intimate and full-on, and it had to be convincing. But I’m not a psychologist, so it was always going to be a guessing game. I read books like The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout, Confessions of a Sociopath by M.E. Thomas, Without Conscience by Robert D. Hare and The Empathy Trap by Tim & Jane McGregor. I’ve been told by some readers involved with psychology that I’ve done a good job, which makes me very happy (and relieved).

I love TV shows like House of Cards (the Kevin Spacey version) and movies like The Wolf of Wall Street, pieces with deeply flawed male characters who have intimate, honest and direct relationships with their audiences. And I adore books where you truly feel you’re being spoken to, as a reader. That was something I wanted to play with.

I didn’t really think of Aeron being a guy, when I was building his character. I just thought of him as Aeron and he happened to be a dude. It’s awesome if he comes off as authentic.

Q4. Do you have a favorite scene from the book?

The last scene, before the epilogue. Obviously I can’t go into it without giving out spoilers, but the role reversal, the adrenaline rush I got when writing it…the whole book felt like I’d dragged the reader along a dark corridor for hours, and had suddenly smacked them about the head (which makes me sound like a complete sociopath, but when you finally get to make your ‘big reveal’—it’s so satisfying).

Q5. Sociopath: Legacy is up next. What can you tell/tease us about it? Will be dual point of view this time?  Might we get the full story on what happened with Mrs. Lore? Does Montgomery get what’s coming (should be coming) for him? ;-)

Ooh. I can’t give out specifics…but yes, it is dual POV. There was really no other way to write this one; it’s a book full of answers. But there’s a price for all of that, right? That’s how these things work. If Aeron and Leo want the truth, they have to pay for it.

Character Interview: 5 Questions PLUS with Aeron and Leo from Sociopath
Media Mogul Aeron Lore Confesses Secret Mermaid Obsession!

Q1.  Aeron— How are things going between you and Leo? You had a crazy little twist in your relationship, have you forgiven her? Do you trust her, and by trust I’m recalling your own definition of the word?

You can’t measure a relationship in terms of how much you trust someone. You have to think about how much they trust you. Forgiveness is similar; I think it invalidates any kind of logic, personally, but it works for others and that makes it work for me.

So…all things considered, yeah—I’m enjoying Leo very much. I suspect she forgives me for everything, in brief moments.

When she remembers to.

Q2.  Aeron— If your life was turned into a movie, what would the soundtrack encompass? Leo— feel free to add your two cents to the playlist as well.

Aeron: I’ve always liked that Blue Oyster Cult song. What is it again? Don’t Fear the Reaper. I love the way it takes two of the most complicated subjects we have—love and death—and makes them really simple. Sells them to the listener. Genius.

Leo: Probably Aha by Imogen Heap.

Q3.  Leo—You’ve had a bit of an ‘experimental’ sex life. What can you spill about your latest bedroom boundaries? Is Aeron pushing any limits or are there things you’d like to try?

Leo: I try not to think about boundaries. If you consider it that way, you’re more likely to be afraid. Sometimes I think I’d just like to try simpler things…slow movements, gentle touches. Not that he can’t be gentle, but it’s never in the purest sense of the word. And then other times, I think I’d be bored if that was all he ever amounted to.

Q4. Going to just throw this one out there since I’m sure a therapist could have a field day with this topic for you Aeron and even possibly Leo— Mother’s Day…what are your personal feelings on that holiday?

Aeron: I think it’s twenty-four hours long and happens on a weekend.

Q5. For both Aeron and Leo—Describe each other in just five words.

Aeron: strong, weak, brazen, smart, gorgeous.

Leo: enigmatic, intimidating, elusive, witty, honest.

Plus for a little extra fun, here are five rapid fire questions for both of you!

#1 Bite or lick?
Aeron: You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.
Leo: Ignore him. I’ll go with bite.

#2 Cameras on or cameras off?
Leo: On, always.
Aeron: No comment.

#3 Phone sex or sexting?
Aeron: Don’t answer that.
Leo: But don’t you think—
Aeron: Nobody needs to know this shit.

#4 Sheets—cotton or satin?
Aeron: Cotton is better for traction.
Leo: [Silence]

#5 Hot tub or pool?
Aeron: Pool. Because sometimes I like to pretend I’m a sparkly green mermaid. There—how’s that for a headline?
Leo: Hot tub. [Aside] I’m sorry about him. He hasn’t had his coffee yet this morning.

Thank you Aeron, Leo, and Lime for two amazing interviews! Now here's hoping Aeron doesn't dig up dirt on the blog in retaliation for these nosy questions ;-) But I think we're safe; there's that whole "trust" (see Aeron's own definition) thing! lol

BLOG TOUR: Love's Spark by LA Cotton

love's spark blog tour banner

~Synopsis~

Twenty-four year old Sharn Macer has spent the last six years looking for love....for that spark. She's failing miserably. After a life changing break up forces her back to her broken home, and into a string of dating disasters, Sharn decides it's time to hang up her heels and take a break from guys.
She didn’t expect to find the spark… with the quiet guy from her past.

Keefer Smith likes to keep to himself, always has and probably always will. He doesn't have time to date, not when he’s constantly worrying about what state he'll find his father in. Lucky for him, he does have one thing going for him; baseball.

He didn’t expect to want more… with the girl he once watched from afar.

Back in high school, Sharn would never have looked twice at someone like him, and Keefer would’ve never stood a chance with someone like her. But six years is a long time, and when they find themselves placed in charge of seventeen ninth graders they soon realize they might not be as different as they think. The chemistry is right, even if the timing is all wrong.

Sparks will fly, but will they spark love?

~Book Review~
3.5 stars

Sharn Macer is a 9th grade English teacher elected to be the faculty adviser for an after-school baseball program for at risk students. Keefer Smith is the baseball coach assigned to train Sharn’s students.  Sharn and Keefer know each other from their own high school days, but back then they ran in different circles. Now they aren’t so different though. Their family backgrounds bear a lot of similarities, even when they don’t realize it.

Overall the story is good. I enjoyed the inclusion of the students. Sharn and Keefer make a cute couple and in the small moments where they act like a couple they have a lot of potential. Unfortunately, there are also missed opportunities for romance in place of which there is a distinct lack of communication between two professional college graduates, which made it frustrating at times. I liked both of their characters; I just really wanted to see them show some more maturity in the way they handled a potential relationship. And I really wanted more steam! ;-) There is a serious lack of hot, detailed encounters here.

So if you are looking for story over romance and don’t mind if the “bedroom” scenes are scarce, then Love Sparks is one to add to your TBR.

~Excerpt~

A man waved us to a halt, and Keefer lowered his window, exchanging a twenty for a ticket. He drove further into the area, pulled the truck into a row, and cut the engine. There had to be thirty cars all lined up in three curved lines, facing the screen, which was playing an old black and white theater ad. There was a small booth selling drinks, popcorn out of an old-fashioned machine, and hot dogs.

“This is…wow. I’ve never been to anything like this.”

“It’s pretty cool. I’ve been a few times. The theater gets too crowded. I like being able to sit in my truck.”

He was totally serious, and I realized I still knew nothing about him. The little pieces that he revealed about himself were not helping to put together the much larger and more complex Keefer-puzzle.

“Tell me something about yourself. Something I don’t know.”

He turned to face me, a serious expression etched on his face. “We need popcorn and sodas. I’ll go grab us some.” He jumped down from the truck and headed over to the booth. Not only did Keefer avoid small talk, it seemed that he also dodged talking about himself.

“Here.” He opened his door, holding popcorn and Coke, climbed back into the cab, and started messing with his seat. Once he’d reclined his back, he started on mine. “Lay back.” His breath tickled the crook of my neck and I shuddered. “Tell me when it’s comfy.”

I sank back into the seat. “Perfect.”

The screen went black and the opening credits started. He balanced the popcorn between our seats, grabbed my hand, placing it in his, and focused on the screen. Talking was definitely not on the agenda.

An hour into the film, I was struggling to keep up. I’d heard Safe House was Denzel Washington’s latest big hit, but I was confused as hell. Keefer seemed engrossed, and apart from the odd handful of popcorn, he remained solely focused on the film. I was a little bored. Bringing me to somewhere he liked to go seemed like a nice gesture at first, but now it just seemed like an excuse to avoid conversation. If it weren't for his thumb gently caressing the soft skin between my thumb and forefinger, it would have been easy to forget we were on a date at all.

The screen paused and faded into a black background with the word intermission printed in white at the dead center. Keefer sat up, stretching his arms in front of him. “What do you think?”

“Umm, yeah. It’s okay.”

His eyes narrowed. “You’re bored, aren’t you? Shit.” He ripped off his cap and pulled at his messy blond hair. “This was a bad idea.”

He looked so disappointed that guilt flooded me. “Hey, no, I’m fine. I’m glad you brought me here. Really.”

“You want anything else to eat or drink?”

“No, I’m fine. Thanks.”

Keefer leaned back into his seat and outstretched his hands. “There’s always a fifteen-minute break.”

The stilted conversation was awkward, and so not how I imagined things going.

“So, we have fifteen minutes to talk?” I smiled, only being half-serious, but Keefer’s face paled a little.

“Hmm, what do you want to talk about?”

“It’s a date, isn’t it? We’re meant to get to know each other.”

His eyes sparked, and he closed the distance between us, so that his nose was aligned to mine. “I have a better idea.” He touched his lips to mine, so slowly that it was almost painful. His movements were cautious and precise, as if he were making sure that I was okay with it, and the moment his tongue gently licked my lower lip, I quivered. “Keef-”

I knew he was trying to distract me—avoiding conversation, again. But when he parted my lips with his own, demanding entry, I forgot everything. Keefer’s hands clamped around my waist and before I knew it, he’d pulled me across the cab onto his lap. I readjusted my legs so that I was straddling him, and my hands reached for his cap, pulling it off and dropping it to the side of us. My fingers stroked his hair away from his face as he stared at me, a look of awe in his eyes.

“What?”

“You. Are. Gorgeous.”

Our lips crashed together and he tightened his hold on me. He hardened beneath me, pressing into me as I sat above him. He broke our kiss but only to trail his tongue and lips along my jaw and neck. The sensation caused me to shiver and a breathy moan escaped my lips.

“Fuck. Don't make that noise again. It drives me insane.”

“Keefer...” I was stunned. We couldn't hold a serious conversation, but when we kissed, we lost all control.

“Less talking, more kissing.” He loosened one of his hands from my waist and brought it to my face, stroking his finger down my cheek and across my jaw, then wound it around one of my stray curls and gently pulled. “More kissing.” His lips feathered mine and his finger released my hair and splayed out onto my neck, my skin burning under his touch.

The bright lights of the movie starting again caused me to jump, which caused Keefer to groan, and not in a good way.

“Oh damn, sorry. Are you okay?” I couldn't help but laugh, as he cursed under his breath. “I think the moment’s over.”

He helped me wriggle back to my seat and we settled in to watch the rest of the film. All I could think about was his lips on mine.

A man waved us to a halt, and Keefer lowered his window, exchanging a twenty for a ticket. He drove further into the area, pulled the truck into a row, and cut the engine. *Googles Honey-Do List on phone* Ohhh so it's a list that your 'honey' makes for you? Hmm to be honest, Nic hasn't given me a list of chores to do, we just set a day to clean the flat every week and go food shopping etc and get on with it together. Of course, it helps to get dirty and then even dirtier in the shower afterward *smirks*

Nic—did he correctly detail your list?
*laughs* He did! I don't give him a list of chores to do, if I did then he would never do them! It's simpler to do them together then I can keep an eye on him!

Round 2
Craig—what does Nic have too much of?
Seashells! They are EVERYWHERE! In the kitchen, in the living room, in the bedroom, even in the bloody bathroom! I understand her love for them, I really really do but do we really need them all over the bleeding flat?! I mean, come on, no we don't.

Nic—what did you think Craig would say you have too much of?
Are you shitting me? Babe, we are having words when we get home after that answer....arse....

Round 3
Craig—If you land yourself in the doghouse with Nic (perhaps even after that last question), what are you bringing home to appease her: flowers, chocolate, or jewelry?
Oh I am definitely in the doghouse after that question now! I don't bring home the conventional things, I like to keep her on her feet. The last time I was in the doghouse, I brought home some handcuffs and a blindfold...that was a verrrrry good night, if memory serves me correctly.

Nic—Did Craig choose the correct answer or is he in the doghouse for this question?
OH Jesus, everyone is going to think we are sex mad! But yeah, I don't care for the chocolates or flowers! He brings me toys or seashells; things that mean something to me.

Round 4
Craig—What is Nic’s best asset?
Her eyes and her arse. I love the green, especially the glassy green they go when she's turned on and her arse is just the most perfect arse I have ever laid hands on. I can't keep my hands off it.

Nic—How did he do?
I thought he would say my bum, he can't stay away from it!

Round 5
Craig—since she can’t hide those Kindle purchases from you anymore, who is Nic’s current favorite book boyfriend?
If I remember correctly, and from the scene we only just reenacted last night, her current obsession is Zach from Uncivilized. She loves the primal, alpha male and the sex scenes that book has has her dripping and you won't see me complaining about having amazing rough sex with my wife.

Nic—Is he correct?
Craig, can you please just keep the answer simple? No one needs to know about my 'dripping' and things like that! But yes, he's correct. Zach can be my uncivilized guy any time he wants to be. Holy shit, he had my heart in a flutter.

Okay, now it’s Nic’s turn to see how well she knows her husband. Nic, Craig has his answers to these questions already written down, let’ see how well you do.

Round 1
Nic—What is Craig’s most annoying habit?
Not setting his own damn alarm clock! You all know how I have to get him up or he never will. Yeah...he still hasn't really set one.

Craig—is that what you thought she’d say?
HAHA yeah I knew she would say the alarm clock. I haven't changed. It's set but snooze is on for ages and it pisses Nic off to no end. She's even resorted to throwing water over me a few times.

Round 2
Nic—The color of lingerie that Craig enjoys you in the most?
Hmmm he seems to be taken by my Emerald bra and knicker set. It's one of his favourite and it really turns him on when I wear it...

Craig—what color did you write down?
Duhhh the emerald set! Holy shit, whenever I strip her down and see she's wearing it I need to get it off her asap and be inside her. It turns me all upside down when I see her in it! Fuck, I hope she's wearing it today...Are you, babe?

Round 3
Nic—how many times in a week do you think Craig prefers to “make whoopee?
HA, I love that term! 'Make Whoopee”. Even after a year of marriage, we still can't keep our hands off each other so really, say average every night, so seven times a week? Love the sexercise *winks*

Craig—What was your answer? Is Nic in the ballpark?
Oh my baby was! She's still my little temptress and I just can't keep away from her or her body.

Round 4
Nic—If you made a porn from your favorite sexual encounter with Craig, what would it be called: Waterworld, Taxi Driver, or Batteries Not Included?
Hahah I love these names! And it's really hard to choose but I have to say Batteries Not Included. There was just something so intense about that night, as well as the lovely vibrator that has become a firm fixture in our sex life. So yeah, i'm going to say, if we made a porno, it would have to be Batteries Not Included.

Craig—Which time did she enjoy the most?
She loved each time with me, didn't you see? *smirks and winks* but my kinky wife loved the vibrator too much so i'm saying Batteries Not Included. I definitely got her begging that night!

Round 5
Nic—While it will only take one to give Craig DILF status, how many kids does Craig ultimately want?
I'm going with two. Brother and sister.

Craig—While we’re sure you have lots of ‘practice sessions’ in the works, how many times do you ultimately want to be successful?
We are having a greaaaat time practicing 'making babies' but i'd love to have two. Boy and girl. Can you just imagine a mini-Nic and Craig running around? They would be the damn cutest kids imaginable!

Thanks Nic & Craig for playing! Happy Anniversary! And a big thanks to Z. Elizabeth for all the fun :)

~Excerpt~
I turn back to the waves, pick up my bag and grab my phone. John looks over my shoulder, wondering just what I am doing but I sit closer to him and lean in so my cheek is next to his. This feels totally weird but I am going to document this moment and remind him that I gained his trust, albeit, a little too fast, but we are now Father and Daughter-in-law and we haven’t had a picture together yet.

“Um, Nic, just what the hell are you doing?” John asks but I reply with my arm around his shoulder and my arm stretched upwards with my phone. I smile into it, catching John's expression. A mix of confusion, amusement and disbelief at what I am doing.

“Taking our first Father-in-law/Daughter-in-law photo, now smile, John!” I demand, smiling into the camera. John follows suit and I snap the image. I bring the phone so both of us can see the picture and I laugh. He certainly looks like an older version of Craig and he really is a DILF. I know for a fact when Craig and I have kids he is going to be the yummiest DILF imaginable and I cannot wait!

“Well, Papa Thomas, that is your birthday present sorted.” I giggle, locking the phone and throwing it to the bottom of my bag. John shakes his head and stares back out to the ocean.

“You know, Nic, I had you down all wrong. I thought you were a spoilt little girl who was exactly like her mother, but you are nothing like her. You're like your father; strong, determined, and loyal. I'm so lucky that in some backarse way you and Craig found each other and I'm proud to call you my Daughter-in-law.” John admits and I look to him, tears filling my eyes. It's hard to swallow but I push the lump down. I lean forward and wrap my arms around his neck, wanting a hug. John's arms wrap around my back and he laughs at my emotions, rubbing my back as I sniff the tears back.

“You have no idea how much that means, DILF.” I murmur, drawing back from him. I smile widely at him and gather up my belongings, ready to leave and dart to Kelsie's to pick up my suitcase. “I'll see you around, Papa Thomas. Don't be a stranger now we are BFF's” And with a wink I begin to walk away from him.

“What's a DILF?” He shouts after me and I let out a hearty laugh. I turn around and begin to walk backwards.

“Google it.”

 ~Deleted Scene~
I gingerly creep through the flat, hoping to god that Craig went out to clear his head too. I hear nothing. No TV, no snoring, nothing and I sigh in relief that I’m alone. That I don't have to face up to Craig and the running away part of the afternoon. Although him not being here makes me wonder what he is up to, whether he went over to Rob's to spill his guts too or he ignored me and is now delving into our parent's past. I really hope its the former. I have no idea what would happen if I found out Craig went behind my back, but I know for a fact I would be out of here with my heart breaking every step of the way.
The clock breaks my thought process with its annoying chimes. I glance up to see its 7pm and wonder just where in the hell the day has gone. From amazing shower sex this morning, an afternoon of edginess with the parents, a fight with Craig, tears with Kelsie and now I am alone again. Jesus, I am exhausted. This day has really taken it out of me. Throwing my keys into the dish on the living room table, I make my way to the bedroom to change into a top and pyjama shorts but I stop dead at the end of the bed and stare down at the photograph laying in the middle. The very one I was staring at only a few hours ago.
A small smile graces my face as I remember the day so clearly; how rubbish I was at skating, yet how much fun I was having with Craig, Kelsie and Rob. How Craig would be there to pick me up every time I fell over and how I just couldn’t keep the smile off my face just watching Kelsie and Rob. It was such a fun-filled day, which ended in a sex filled evening when Craig and I returned back home – he was gleaming over how playful and amusing I was during the day, how he needed to have me that very moment. And of course, I let him. He definitely turned his cocky charm up that evening, and who was I to resist it?
It's hard to believe that was 3 months ago; a week after our wedding. It's hard to believe that I cried myself to sleep, that Craig and I now share a bed, that he's tone down his cockiness a hell of a lot and we actually are acting like a married couple – minus the 'real' love between us. I push these thoughts away and place the photo back on my side of the bed, before changing and sliding under the sheets. I need to forget about everything today and loose myself to another book boyfriend. Grabbing my kindle from under my pillow, I turn it on and begin to sink back into the story of a lost boy and girl who meet each other on a bus and end up travelling and falling in love with each other. I have read this book over and over, yet somehow I can relate to the girl, how lost she feels, how she just wants to get away, anywhere and find herself; never thinking of falling in love, yet she found her soul mate. I laugh sadly and continue their story, the clogs in my brain churning over wanting and needing their story, minus the absolute heartache near the end.

The Deal Cover
3.5 Stars

Nicole Jones and Craig Thomas don’t have your ordinary marriage. They had a real wedding, they share a flat, and they even consummate the marriage, but their matrimony has a time limit—12 month and then the deal is up.

I liked the premise of this story—two people raised as enemies after a feud between their parents but secretly longing for each other, forced to marry to gain an inheritance.  You could feel their tension in the opening pre-wedding scene where they prepare to seal the deal. It has a great set up. But then it felt as if some key scenes were skipped over—their wedding night for one.  Some scenes are told in hindsight, some are more tell than show. As a result it felt like there could have been a little more build up that, if present, would have helped establish Nic and Craig’s characters a little better in the beginning and fueled their chemistry further.

Though not provided linearly, there still is no shortage of hot scenes! These two definitely behave like newlyweds. The erotic aspect is captured well. H-O-T :)
“‛You ready to tempt me, Nic? You ready to put that delicious body to use? Ready to put that gorgeous mouth to work and scream my name? Are you, baby?’”
I especially liked Craig. He's one sexy, cocky, teacher. I had a little hard time connecting with Nic though. It seemed like she had a tendency to over-react. Communication was definitely not either of their strong points.  I’m not a fan of misunderstanding for misunderstanding sake. I like when couples work through things together, a type of ‘us against the world’ approach, and that’s not what happens here enough, though they do pull it together eventually. Based off the synopsis, I was hoping the plot would be them sleuthing to find out the secret together, not just reacting to what it was and who knew first.

Now their friends on the other hand, they were often the voice of reason and had much stronger heads on their shoulders. They are a nice addition to the story.  I found myself cheering “Go Kelsie”quite a few times.
“…don’t even think about giving me f*cking ‘tude again, Nic. I will put a cap in your arse and kick it to the street.”
Overall, if you’re looking for a hot little erotic tale, The Deal definitely serves up plenty of sexy scenes and ends on a romantic note.
