RELEASE/REVIEW: By Any Other Name by J.M. Darhower

Book 1 of the Forbidden series
Deep in the heart of New York City, where murder and mayhem reign, love sometimes grows where it doesn't belong, and not everyone can walk away unscathed. What do you do when you find yourself falling for the enemy?

~Book Review~
4.5 Stars
By Any Other Name is a story of New York mob families, most specifically the Galantes and the Barasantis, who become involved in a mob war where outside their own territories neither family is safe. But Genevieve (Genna) and Matteo (Matty-B) have lived largely on the outskirts of that crime life, not engaged in the family business until Matty returns to town to be near his ailing mother, and Genna’s mischievous girl nature lands her in the court system. A chance meeting puts them in each other’s orbit, their true identities initially unknown.

This is a sweet, sexy, and dangerous forbidden love story. Genna and Matty are meant to be enemies but what they feel for each other is far different. Both characters are likeable: Genna exhibits some “bad girl” spunk and though she fears her father’s wrath, she also isn’t afraid to push boundaries. Matty is kind-of the prince of the crime world. He really doesn’t care about it and thus walks to the beat of his own drum as much as possible. I liked how Matty had confidence, but as the story progressed we also saw his vulnerability. All-in-all they make a cute couple (I loved their billiard wagers), and there’s some real chemistry here.
“‘I want your panties…In your mouth…Gagging you…As I f*ck you from behind.’”
The theme of identity, looking beyond a person’s name or image and seeing their true self, is an important one and sadly one that the younger generation of these families can see but their fathers are too blinded by their hatred and revenge to understand.

I appreciated that the story avoids some pitfalls that some contemporary romances embrace when a couple has to go against the odds. There isn’t any unnecessary misunderstandings between them, they remain monogamous to each other, and face their uphill relationship battle together.
“‘I risk coming here because one of us has to take that risk. One of us has to be willing to take the chance.’”
The story is engaging and I give the author a lot of credit for that as told via 3rd person narration, I often have a difficult time getting into 3rd person stories and while I did crave Matty and Genna’s inner thoughts at times, I still enjoyed the tale.

The prologue and epilogue brings the story full circle, making it somehow feel complete for certain characters and yet at the same time leaves you craving much more for others.

~Excerpt~
"A Roman Coke," Genna mused. "What's that?"
"It's rum and Coke. We just call it a Roman Coke around here."
"Because you're Italian?"
"And because when you get drunk enough, it all just slurs together anyway."
"Ah." Genna picked hers up, motioning toward him with it. "So what are we drinking to?"
"Today."
"Today?"
He nodded. "Right now, this moment. Let's drink to it."
Smiling, she clinked her glass with his. "Today, then."
They threw them back at the same time. The liquor hit Genna's taste buds and she grimaced, the vicious burn seeping down her throat and settling deep in her chest. "Ugh, is there even any Coke in this damn thing?"
Matty laughed, setting his empty glass down. "Just a splash."
"I couldn't tell."
"That's because I prefer it that way," he responded. "Strong and rough, enough to leave a lingering ache. I like it to hurt just a bit."
Oh good God. Those words sent a chill down Genna's spine, one she couldn't hide, as Matty waved for the waitress. Eyes never leaving Genna, he ordered another round of drinks.
"Another?" she asked, picking up the water to take another sip, this one to soothe the sting in her chest. "You said one drink."
A sly smile curved his lips. "I like to keep them coming."
"Is that right?"
"Absolutely." Matty stood, leaning across the table, his lips near her ear. "Maybe you'll let me show you later."

J.M. Darhower is a USA Today bestselling author, best known for her Mafia romantic suspense novels. She lives in a tiny town in rural North Carolina, where she churns out more words than will ever see the light of day. She has a deep passion for politics and speaking out against human trafficking, and when she isn't busy writing (or being a fangirl) she's usually ranting about those things.

COVER REVEAL: Filthy Desire by Sebastian Ex

 Release Date: March 4, 2015

~Synopsis~
My name is Matthew Weston. Don't call me anything else, because I won't respond. And if you think you can get away with whimpering ‘Matt’ while I have you tied to the bed, about to devour you, it'll end up being your loss.

Men like me don't talk about feelings. We just don't.

What men like me do is pound. I pound the asphalt with my running shoes on morning runs. I pound a punching bag in the gym until my knuckles bleed. And when I need a release, I find a beautiful woman sprawled out on her bed, eagerly waiting for my cock, and pound her into oblivion. Yeah, that's me. I don't have feelings, and I don't do love.

At least I didn't, until the night Ella walked into my office looking like a disgusting junky to interview for a position for The Onyx Club.

She was like no one I'd ever met before. She was timid, reserved, and quite plain with her mousy brown hair and dirty clothes. Ella also had a dark and haunted gleam in her eye. A secret, a past she was desperate to conceal.

And when she called me ‘Matt’ it didn't seem to bother me.

She came into my life and turned it upside down. The only question is, can I screw her out of my system, or will my filthy desire for her keep her by my side?

REVIEW/RELEASE BLITZ: Crash Ride by T. Gephart

~Synopsis~

Megan Winters had lusted over Troy Harris, drummer for international rock band Power Station, for years. Not being the type of girl who was invited backstage, her fantasies had stayed just that, fantasies. When her best friend unexpectedly starts dating one of the other band members it puts her on a crash course at war with her libido. Her solution— they need to have sex. Surely once she had scratched that itch, and saw the fantasy didn’t live up to the reality she
could move on. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Troy Harris vowed to stay away from Megs. The sexy, smart and funny blonde left his mind and his body feeling like a pretzel. No matter how attracted he was to her, she was a no-go zone. The best friend of his best friend’s girlfriend? Cue the reality show. But when she gives him the chance to have a one-night no strings good time, there was no way he could turn that down. Maybe she was right. One night, and then they could go back to being just friends.

Both of them were delusional.

BOOK REVIEW
4.25 Stars

We first met Megs and Troy in High Strung when Troy’s band mate Dan fell for Megs’s best friend Ashlyn. As a stand alone series you don’t need a copy of High Strung to follow this story (although it’s a hilariously funny and sexy book so I recommend you read it too). What you do need to read Crash Ride is a fan. Or simply turn on the air conditioning. No, I’m not crazy. It might be February, but by only 14% in you are going to need to cool yourself down because T. Gephart does an amazing job with the steam factor in these books!
“The charge coming off our bodies would have been enough to power a small country. Energy crisis solved.”
Troy Harris is totally swoon-worthy!
“‘I’ll give you everything you need, and things you didn’t even know you did.’”
He’s sweet, sexy, easy going, and funny but in a much more laid back way than Dan Evans (not that I didn’t also adore Dan). With a Mohawk and pierced you-know-what, he also nails the rock drummer vibe. It won’t take long till you’ll be wishing you were the one screaming “Harder Troy Harris.”
“Maybe Troy’s penis had a in-built flux capacitor and zipped us through the time-space continuum. His talented cock knew no end.”
Dr. Megan Winters is funny too—sometimes she comes off a bit ditzy and I had a little trouble reconciling her personality with her deeper professional job as a psychologist.  Their banter kept them entertaining though it was clear that Troy was the more mature, down-to-Earth one while Megs went a little immature at times.

The majority of the book is very light-hearted, funny, and extremely sexy. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud lines. The climax, however, changes the tone of the book a bit. I honestly didn’t see the initial twist coming and then what happens with that situation is definitely a downer. Though everything works out in the end, it slightly shifted the feel of their otherwise upbeat story.  Most people will just recognize it for the plot point that it is but having had several friends experience this I will note that it could be a sensitive subject for some readers.

Dan and Ash from High Strung make appearance as they prepare for their nuptials, and the Power Station stories aren’t over yet. Hold on to your drum sticks and guitar picks, Jase’s book is coming out next!

High Strung BOOK REVIEW

~Author Bio~

T Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia. T's approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have traveled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley, the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident and who didn't lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. T set herself the challenge to write something that was interesting, compelling and yet easy enough to read that was still enjoyable. Pulling from her own past "colorful" experiences and the amazing personalities she has surrounded herself with, she had no shortage of inspiration. With a strong slant on erotic fiction, her core characters are empowered women who don't have to sacrifice their femininity. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn't let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colorful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey - she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

We thought wrong.

We’re Nora and Julian, and this is our story.

Pre Order HOLD ME

~Excerpt~
“What did you dream about?” I ask softly. “Was it Beth?”

“No.” She shakes her head, and I see that her breathing is beginning to return to normal. Her voice, however, still holds echoes of horror as she says hoarsely, “It was you this time. Majid was cutting out your eyes, and I couldn’t stop him . . .”

I try not to react, but it’s impossible. Her words hurl me back to that cold, windowless room, to the nauseating sensations I’ve been trying to forget for the past several days. My head begins to throb with remembered agony, my half-healed eye socket burning with emptiness once again. I feel blood and other fluids dripping down my face, and my stomach heaves at the recollection. I’m no stranger to pain, or even to torture—my father believed that his son should be able to withstand anything—but losing my eye had been by far the most excruciating experience of my life.

Physically, at least.

Emotionally, Nora’s appearance in that room probably holds that honor.

It takes all of my willpower to wrench my thoughts back to the present, away from the mind-numbing terror of seeing her dragged in by Majid’s men. “You did stop him, Nora.” It kills me to admit this, but if it weren’t for her bravery, I would probably be decomposing in some dumpster in Tajikistan. “You came for me, and you saved me.”

I still have trouble believing that she did that—that she voluntarily placed herself in the hands of psychotic terrorists to save my life. She didn’t do it out of some naive conviction that they wouldn’t harm her. No, my pet knew exactly what they were capable of, and she still had the courage to act.

I owe my life to the girl I abducted, and I don’t quite know how to deal with that.

“Why did you do it?” I ask, stroking the edge of her lower lip with my thumb. Deep down, I know, but I want to hear her admit it.

She gazes at me, her eyes filled with shadows from her dream. “Because I can’t survive without you,” she says quietly. “You know that, Julian. You wanted me to love you, and I do. I love you so much that I would walk through hell for you.”

I take in her words with greedy, shameless pleasure. I can’t get enough of her love. I can’t get enough of her. I wanted her initially because of her resemblance to Maria, but my childhood friend had never evoked even a fraction of emotions Nora makes me feel. My affection for Maria had been innocent and pure, just like Maria herself.

My feelings for Nora are anything but.

“Listen to me, my pet . . .” My hand leaves her face to rest on her shoulder. “I need you to promise me that you will never do something like that again. I’m obviously glad to be alive, but I would sooner have died than had you in that kind of danger. You are never to risk your life for me again. Do you understand me?”

The nod she gives me is faint, almost imperceptible, and I see a mutinous gleam in her eyes. She doesn’t want to make me mad, so she’s not disagreeing, but I have a strong suspicion she’s going to do what she thinks is right regardless of what she says right now.

This obviously calls for more heavy-handed measures.

“Good,” I say silkily. “Because next time—if there is ever a next time—I will kill anyone who helps you against my orders . . . and I will do it slowly and painfully. Do you understand me, Nora? If anyone so much as endangers a hair on your head, whether it’s to save me or for any other reason, that person will die a very unpleasant death. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yes.” She looks pale now, her lips pressed together as if to contain a protest. She’s angry with me now, but she’s also scared. Not for herself—she’s beyond that fear now—but for others. My pet knows I mean what I say.

She knows I’m a conscienceless killer with only one weakness.

Her.

Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.

I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely.

Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful – a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty.

My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him – a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in.

My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story.

I’m not a good man. I never pretended to be one. She can love me, but she can’t change me.

I can, however, change her.

My name is Julian Esguerra, and Nora is mine to keep.

It's a match nobody saw coming, but when the unlikely pair get stranded together on the way home for the holidays, Lacey finds her long-term crush impossible to ignore. As the snow keeps falling, and a friendly game of truth or dare gets way out of control, Daniel discovers that the one girl he wants more than anything is the last person he expected.

But when the snow melts, will their night together be more than just a memory? And will they make it to Beachwood Bay in time for the wedding? Anything can happen this holiday season!

BOOK REVIEW: Unwrapped by Melody Grace
4.25 Stars

On a Christmas Eve flight out of LA, Lacey James is in a hurry to make it back to Beachwood Bay in time for her friend Juliet’s wedding. The last person she’s expecting to run into is the bride’s ex, Daniel Sullivan. But fate seems to have things all mixed up, playing cupid at Christmas for these two opposites.

Lacey, an event planner, is more the fun and carefree type—take life as it comes. Daniel, a lawyer, is more reserved—a guy who has his life all planned out. Or at least he did, till Lacey best friend, his former fiancé, threw a hitch on the marriage plans and he now finds himself looking at Lacey in a different way. Turns out Daniel knows how to let loose and take control when a snow storm diverts their travel plans. A little alcohol and a Truth or Dare game and the pair get wet and wild.
“He rolls us again, rising up above me, and my heart stops to see him like this: magnificent and unleashed. His eyes flash, wild, his face a mask of desire as he yanks my thighs wider and sweeps a possessive hand across me again, making me cry out at the flash of pleasure spiraling out from his electric touch.”
What started as a holiday flight turns into a snowy road trip where Lacey and Daniel have a limited time to figure what’s happening between them. Will they make it back to Beachwood Bay in time? And if they do, how awkward will that be if they show up together? Or will they get swept up in the wedding magic?

This novella moves at a good pace (though their relationship moves a little fast). It’s cute; it’s sweet; and it’s sexy. Though different personalities, Lacey and Daniel are both likeable characters and told via alternating first person point of view, you’re able to maintain a sense of where each of them is coming from, what they are thinking as their holiday travel gone awry unfolds, and where they are figuratively going.

An enjoyable holiday read that can be unwrapped any time of the year ;-)

Valentine's Day 2015: Book Boyfriend Feature

It's Valentine's Day and this is romance book blog so I felt like I couldn't let the holiday pass without a post in tribute to the sexy, fantasy-inducing men we all love to read about.  So for this hearts and flowers holiday I considered, "What makes a perfect book boyfriend?" and "Who are some of the best book boyfriends out there to read about?"  The result was two lists—one of qualities (most likely not a complete list), one of fictional men that deserved the distinction (definitely not a complete list). If you've already had the pleasure of spending a few hours between the pages with these men, then you know why I gave them a shout-out. And if you've not, well then....allow me to play matchmaker! ;-)

Meet 36 year old Ignazio “Naz” Vitale. Somehow his name already screams confident and mysterious, of which he is both. He’s in the business of “dealing with people” and it’s probably best left at that.  A few days stubble on his face and black leather gloves on his strong hands never looked so sexy. He chooses his words carefully and when we first meet him in Monster in His Eyes he’s an intriguing riddle to sort out. Naz’s favorite movie is Twelve Angry Men, his favorite color is black. He enjoys travel and expensive cuisine (the non-poisoned kind). He has a distinctive brand of kink that may leave you gasping…for breath and from his stamina!

Fall in dangerously in love with Naz in Monster in His Eyes and Torture to Her Soul by J.M. Darhower.

Julian Esguerra is not for the faint of heart. He’s dark, mysterious, and possessive. But holy hell is he also hot! Most definitely check well endowed and kinky off the list on this one as this dangerous man is always in control and indulges in the BSDM. The last book boyfriend comes as a fun new addition to the book world. He just slipped between my pages this week and so if you haven’t met him, I’d like to introduce you to him. Caulter Sterling with his tattoos and piercings is bit of a bored, spoiled rich boy. He’s confident (read arrogant) and well endowed. He’d probably enjoy hanging out with Rule Archer, and this 18 year old horny boy already excels at dirty talk so much that I started to wonder if he was secretly Jaron Rose's son.

You can find Caulter’s witty and inadvertently funny musings in the book by his other name—Prick by Sabrina Paige

This is obviously just a small sampling of the lust-worthy men of the literary world. I could include a ton more but for one reason or another I felt these fictional men deserved a little attention this holiday, and really I was pressed for time to add more. lol  In fact (*glancing at watch*) I have a date with a man on my Kindle right now. Maybe next year I'll tell you who he is. ;-)

So what qualities do you think make an amazing book boyfriend? Aside from smart and sexy (two must haves), surely the following also helps seal the deal. The proof is in the pages...
**Some "qualities" may be Rated R ;-) 18+ Reader Discretion is advised.**
ü  Confident
“‘Every theory you’ve ever f*cking had about men, I’m going to prove wrong.” —Ryke (HF)
 Ã¼ Funny
“‘Don’t what, Princess?...You’re the one who’s rubbing up against my cock like it’s a magic lamp.’” —Caulter (Prick)
ü Sweet
“‘I was carving my name into your heart.’” — Jaron (Masquerade)
“‘I kissed you tonight because I want your lips to only touch mine. From now until forever. That’s the f*cking truth.’” —Ryke (HF)
ü Dirty Talking
“‘Never been this hard before, baby. Never! All for you…’” —Nik (TRWHM)
“‘I have a word problem for you…If Naz forgoes sleep, and Karissa gets naked, how many orgasms can he giver her before sun up?’” —Naz (Monster)
Ã¼ Well endowed  (I went straight to the women who love them for this research)
“He was completely naked, and the long, broad length of him stretched just past his belly button.” —Emmie about Nik (TRWHM)
“I could stand it no longer. I reach frantically for the button on his pants and pulled them open, releasing his thick erection from its denim trap.” —Jayden about Nick (Paradise)
And to the men themselves:
“‘I’m working hard to ruin you. After me, baby, all other men are going to be like shoving pencils in your vagina.’” —Jaron (Masquerade)
 Ã¼ Kinky
“‘That’s it, sweetheart…Fight me before I f*ck you to death.’” —Naz(Monster)
And last but certainly not least....
ü  Faithful

Here's the real swoon-worthy thing about them: Once they find their one, they only have eyes for that woman. So unless you're Karissa, Emmie, Billie, Sienna, Nora, Shaw, Daisy, Jayden, Avery, Tillie, or Kate you wouldn't stand a chance. And that's how it should be.
