BOOK REVIEW: Winter Kisses by Addison Moore

A holiday auction to benefit the theater department at Whitney Brigs U. puts Laney Sawyer back in the orbit of her ex Ryder Capwell after twelve months.  Laney is still seething about how things went down between them last year, and Ryder is still pining for the girl that has his heart. But their one shot at a second chance rests on a night of alcohol and weakened inhibitions.  

Can they make up for 365 days in one night?

 ‘You come next, Ryder….And if I’m lucky, I will, too.’”

Winter Kisses is a perfect holiday romance short story with two supporting characters from 3 AM Kisses. Although you don’t need to read 3AM Kisses first, if you enjoy this story, you’ll enjoy that one and vice versa.

Speaking of 3 AM Kisses, Baya and Bryson are back with some enjoyable appearances as this is a series where friendship is also key. Even with their small parts, Baya seems true to character with her sweet innocence although she is perceptive rather than naïve in this one—a nice touch to the story. Bryson’s male bonding scene with Ryder where Bryson is “packing” and doles out the “Halloween candy” is a very cute and hilarious guy scene.

As a couple, Laney and Ryder are cute together. Their banter and double entendre dialogue is adorable, and there’s plenty of steam between them.

“‘Are you propositioning me?’ 

‘Let’s see….I’m standing in your home—in your bedroom. You’re the one with a hard-on pointed in my direction, so logic only insists that you, Ryder Capwell, are the one who is blatantly propositioning me.’”

(slight spoiler) *While I would have preferred to see Mrs. Capwell and Meg receive a bigger take down,* it’s still a fun, sweet, and sexy story with witty alternating first person POV from both Laney and Ryder, cute dialogue, lots of romance, and hot love scenes. HEA.

Note to Ryder though: Buy that couch for the next time Laney stops by the office ;-)

If you are looking for a hot winter afternoon read, this adorable super sexy story is most definitely one to choose!

Luke or “Lukey” is one hot, dirt-talking, horny guy. Tilly is his cute, independent match. Together they have amazing chemistry that produces plenty of hot, exciting, snowy sex and adorable, dirty banter! Their encounters are sizzling and sweet at the same time. For the most part this is a fun, light-hearted read but the turning point will yank at your heartstrings until the duo gets their HEA.

Can Tilly avoid the ski slopes without arising suspicion among her friends? In the meantime can Tilly finally see past her lust haze for Luke to tell him about their little ride-along? Will Luke be up for the daddy role?

While Sexy Summers is part of a Sexy series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone as each book features a different couple among this group of friends.  And if you want to make your own holiday a little naughtier this year, this is one to put on your wish list.

BOOK REVIEW: Private North by Tess Oliver

When college student August “Auggie” Stonefield’s dreams of gingerbread houses and a traditional Christmas are slashed by her family’s change of plans to spend the holidays in Europe, Auggie accepts Professor’s North’s student job offer to catalog some ancient artifacts. Though the perk of the job should be Professor North’s graduate student son, Ethan, who will also be working on the project, it’s on the road to her new winter vacation plans that Auggie quickly discovers that the other North son, Private Dalton North, is far more mesmerizing. 

“I peered up at Ethan North. He was incredibly perfect and the type of guy any girl could hand her heart over to, but the North who’d just left the room, weary and broken from war, was the North who could reach inside and take a girl’s heart hostage forever.”

Dalton is one of those broken heroes. An injured soldier, he’s intense, a little moody, and still fighting his inner battles and survivor’s guilt. Auggie is a smart, strong, and sensible female character. The two have chemistry that oozes off the page. The scenes are written in a way that make seemingly every day interactions between them feel fueled with longing. 

“I stood on my toes and lowered my mouth to his skin. He sucked in a sharp breath as I pressed my lips to the scars. I kissed him over and over again wanting to absorb the pain that still clung to him physically and mentally.”

A story that blends fire and ice, their simmering heat is contrasted against the winter atmosphere. Tess Oliver does a good job with the setting, capturing the cold, icy landscape and slightly remote location to enhance the feelings of loneliness, isolation, and desperation that the various characters sustain.

Meanwhile, there is an aspect of mystery as to what is going on with the precious artifact Professor North is holding; and the story, told from Auggie’s POV, is crafted in such a way that the intentions and motivations of all of the North men keep you guessing at one time or another. Private North is most definitely an afternoon page-turner. 

Is Dalton too broken to be healed? Is there more to Thomas North than an easy going professor? What does Ethan know about the artifacts? Can Auggie trust any of the North men?

The ending resolves all of the main plot points, although I’ll admit to wanting more of Auggie and Dalton and what their future holds. They are certainly on my list of favorite book couples as they are both likeable characters. A suspenseful romance that lingers with you in a good way, pick up a copy of Private North....
