BLOG TOUR: Newly Exposed by Meghan Quinn

Thunderclap_Graphic_BuyNow

~Synopsis~

Adam James is a corn-fed, Nebraska raised, piece of man meat with a chiseled body and baby face. He is in desperate need of a paycheck and will do just about anything to get one, including stripping down to his skivvies and lathering up in baby oil.

Solo Cohan is a quirky hipster with a strong work ethic, raised by two gay dads who are head over heels in love with Harrison Ford and Star Wars, hence the name, Solo. She works for Teeg Model Management, the same modeling agency that decides to book Adam as their next up and coming model. Sparks ignite between her and Adam the minute her baby oil soaked hand connects with his practically naked body.

Even though Solo can't stop thinking about Adam during photo shoots, she quickly and awkwardly, shows Adam her distaste for male models and her inability to engage romantically with them. Adam is captivated by her nerdy talk and peculiar tendencies and sets out to make it his mission to turn the Star Wars loving hipster to the dark side, where mingling with models is widely arousing.

4.25 Stars

Modeling doesn’t exactly feel like Adam (soon to be a celebrity named Axel) James’s calling, but it’s a way to pay the bills and he has some serious ones mounting.  He endures a “grueling” interview process….
“‛How long is your penis?’
Was she for real? When did how long is your penis and how many times do you work out become casual questions in a job interview?”
But he’s rewarded with a job and meeting the girl who might just be his perfect match.

Solo Cohan might be surrounded by hot guys 24/7 working as a PR pro for a modeling company, but she has her reason for not getting involved.  She’s quirky; he’s down to earth. With plenty of shared interests, they are perfect for each other.

Adam does some major wooing to get Solo to give them a chance. Adam is totally adorable, a real swoon-worthy book boyfriend.  If you’re looking for an alternative to the popular manwhore hero, then Adam certainly fits the bill.
“I was different. I enjoyed having a girlfriend, someone I could talk to, hold, and spoil.”
Ah, isn’t he a sweetie?  And for the record he has quite the package that he refers to as "Just-in Beaver." ;-)

There's plenty of cute exchanges as well as sexy times. I’ll admit that at one point I began to fear the story (and a particular character) was headed in a clichéd route, but alas it wasn’t and the person it had to do with turned out to be someone that now I’d be interested in reading in their own story. That’s not to say there isn’t misunderstandings that, with a little more maturity, Solo and Adam could have easily avoided. But overall it’s a cute and sexy story.

Plenty of supporting characters offer potential and possibilities for their own books. I’m not sure if this is going to be a series or not, but the groundwork is certainly there.  For now it’s a stand-alone, HEA, told via their alternating 1st person POV.

00Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Genevieve Rodriguez’s life isn't panning out the way she’s always envisioned. At all. Not only is she exactly one “D” away from getting kicked out of school, but her heart is in pieces after her long-time crush marries someone else. For Genevieve, sunny Silver Strand has never felt more dismal.

Then Adam Abramowitz, her super-cute, super-smart physics tutor—who never seems to notice even her sexiest tops—tells her his Visa is about to expire and he’s going to have to return to Israel.

Suddenly the words pop out Genevieve's mouth before she can stop them. “Marry me.”

At first, it's a joke...until it's not. Because in that brief, unexpected moment, everything changes. The rules. The boundaries. And Adam and Genevieve are about to discover what happens when you push the limits.

~Book Review~

4.75 Stars

Adam Abramowitz is a graduate student/scientist in training whose thesis research is going the tank at the same time his visa is running out.  But then he has a sweet and sexy fellow student to tutor, Genevieve Rodriguez, who offers to get down on one knee to keep him here permanently.

A green card is what ultimately brings them together, but it’s also the source of their troubles. Adam and Genevieve are bit of opposites attract. Her a free spirit; him a logical thinker.  Their methods don’t blend but their hearts sure do.  This is a cute, sweet, and sexy romance with an original premise. Their quandary is not one I’ve read about before so that was a refreshing change.

What was also a refreshing change was the way the story was focused on their romance and their journey. While Genevieve is dealing with moving past the crush of her life getting married, this isn’t a story riddled with interference from scheming exs or other people out to split them up. On the contrary, it’s a completely exclusive relationship guided by elders and peers that know when do dispense valuable words of wisdom and advise.
“‛You’re at this beautiful, exciting age, but your brain is rewiring and your heart is tender. Life is flying by around you, and you feel like there’s too much to grab onto, but if you don’t, you’ll be left behind.”
This story really focuses on what it takes to make a relationship work and in the process throws out plenty of valuable love lessons as the pair negotiate their new unconventional marriage. The romance has a great build up so there’s no insta love or insta lust even though to their family it appears they’ve rushed things. And once Genevieve and Adam finally hit the sheets, it’s plenty steamy!
“‛My husband is an incredibly kind, handsome genius. Like that’s not enough, he has the biggest cock I’ve ever seen.’”
Own Me captures the elements of young love but also struggles that marriages can go through at any stage as well as the difference among the sexes.

Told via Genevieve and Adam’s alternating first person point of view, both characters are adorable. Genevieve is a strong, feisty girly-girl, and Adam is a swoon-worthy nerdy type with a ton of integrity and respect for the woman he loves.  The story is light-hearted and engaging. I was sweating right along with poor Adam when it came to Immigration interrogation and I laughed out loud at the “bathroom vooddo” part.  I really enjoyed reading about them, and while there is an epilogue with their HEA, I craved just a little more of them reaching their goals, particularly Genevieve.  All in all it’s a great story with a great message for young lovers and old.

Part of the Silver Strands series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. This is the first one I’ve read.

~Excerpt~

I tilt my head to one side and really look at him. His sort of messy dark hair, the green eyes that feel warm on my skin when he looks my way, the jaw that’s kind of shockingly male.
He’s kind of shockingly male.
Maybe it’s just because I always tended to date guys who prided themselves on being rough around the edges, blaring their masculinity like a raw badge of honor, that I didn’t immediately realize how much more of a man Adam is.
He’s quiet, but that’s because he listens. To everyone, from his advisors to his lowly tutoring students.
He has a little bit of a dorky mad-scientist vibe going on, but he swept me in his arms like I weighed nothing when I tripped on my heels and then growled at me like a testosterone-crazed wild man.
He works, hard. He makes sure little old couples get their kosher treats, even when he wants to run after crazy me.
He’s a man. The best kind of man. The kind of man I’ve ever been lucky enough to call a friend.
And now we’re going to be married. Even if it’s just in name, I feel proud to think of linking my life with Adam’s.
I hug my folder to my chest as Adam walks me to class, careful to keep a few inches of friendly distance between the two of us. I wonder if that will change.
Maybe after tonight?
The Griffith observatory? My poached spinach and walnut pesto chicken? A starry night spent laughing and getting to know each other?
This fake marriage is getting off to an oddly real start.

BOOK REVIEW: The Pledge by Laura Ward & Christine Manzari

~Synopsis~
Taren needs a do-over. She’s decided the best way to put the high school bullies behind her is to pledge a Taylor-Swift-lip-syncing, beer-guzzling, sorority. Sisterhood helps Taren find the acceptance she’s always craved, but not the love she needs.

Alec wants freedom. To escape his father’s iron fist and unrealistic expectations, he pledges a campus acrobatics club where he finds that drugs and alcohol aren't the only ways to get high. His addiction to danger helps him gain his independence, but it comes at a heavy price.

When the two cross paths, Alec fears his undeniable attraction to the party girl just might threaten everything he's worked so hard to earn. Taren hasn’t forgotten that Alec humiliated her back in high school, but she also can't deny the chemistry they share.

Alec and Taren have nothing in common, but fate is bound and determined to bring them together. They know falling in love is a risk, and yet it’s too hard to ignore. When their worlds clash and they both end up suffering, will they fight to stay together? Or are some pledges too hard to keep?

~Book Review~
3 Stars

Taren Richards had a rough high school experience, bullied and treated like the class geek. Alec Hart was the popular guy, and when he had the chance to lift Taren up, he really left her down.  As a result, what started as a friendship/crush turned into enemies with disdain. Seeing each other again at college is the last thing either of them want until it stirs up latent feelings that become too hard to deny.

The story has an interesting premise. A mix of second chances, opposites attract, and friends-to-enemies-to-lovers.  It’s told via Taren and Alex’s alternating first person point of view so you’re never lost or out of the loop on how either are feeling. That’s helpful because there is a lot of misunderstanding going on between these two.

But first the characters are developed quite separately.  Honestly, I think it would have packed more of a punch to their character development if it had included chapters from their high school years instead of their early college days when they weren’t interacting. The romantic pacing on this one felt off. There was a lot of time spent in the beginning with them getting to know other people and establishing their separate college lives that only occasionally cross paths.  Considering their complicated past, I really felt this time could have been better spent with them reconnecting. Instead, during the first part of the book, they have make-out sessions with other people—that was a turnoff even though they were still in separate worlds and really weren’t attracted to these people that they seemed to think they should be.

This left me really frustrated with Taren as it portrayed her as naïve and in need of a backbone.

Taren was supposed to be really smart, but she did really dumb things. And while the authors did a good job depicting the sometimes immature nature of this age group, it didn’t exactly endear me to the supporting characters and especially the sorority. It definitely wasn’t my thing in college, and Taren’s behavior and some of the people she hung out with (hated Julie!) was a perfect example of why—lots of shallow commitments, creepy frat boys, and the drunken party scene. While this was supposed to be a venue for Taren to gain self-confidence from, it really just made her immature. One minute Taren was complaining that Alec didn’t take her out on romantic dates and then the next minute she couldn’t break drinking night plans with her sorority sisters and then expected him to not have a life.  I had trouble seeing what Alec saw in her aside from physical beauty.

Alec, on the other hand, matured to be a pretty decent, hard-working guy.  He was busting his butt to be independent and true to the things he believed in while not being able to catch a break.  I really felt bad for him. He seemed like such a good guy and many times I doubted that Taren was worthy of him.

If you like sufficient angst and a strong coming-of-age plot, then you'll probably like this one. While I typically enjoy new adult romance, this one just wasn't my style. I personally am not a fan of angst and like to see more romantic build-up with the romance front and center rather than the struggles of the heroine to mature so the story frustrated me at various places. With Taren and Alec being so different I really craved more of a “show” rather than “tell” of why they felt so connected as well as Taren getting her act together. The ending has a pleasant twist though that pulls together a theme throughout.

First in the stand-alone College Bound series. Next book to feature one of the supporting characters, Taren’s roommate.

And then I hear a voice that sends shivers up my spine.

“Hey there, Havoc, too comfy on your bed here to come say hello to your buddy Coen?”

Coen. Shit. He’s here. Why is he here? How the? What the fuck is he doing here?

My eyes spring open and I’m on high alert. Maybe he won’t realize it’s me.

“Hey, Josh.” He says. I can hear his footsteps getting closer.

I’m lying here with a half finished tattoo. It’s not like I can take off running right now.

Well, I could I guess, but who wants an incomplete tattoo?

“Hey, Coen. What’s new man? What are you getting today?” Josh asks him.

“Mike’s just going to do a few touch ups. Nothing major planned this visit.” Coen says.

Oh good. He already had this in his plans then. He isn’t some psycho stalker that followed me here. I hope.

Suddenly I feel his finger, ever so lightly graze up my arm. It sends shivers up my spine and sets my insides on fire and my pulse through the roof. Why does this man, who I’ve only just met, make me so damn crazy?

“Hi, Lexi.” I hear him say behind me. His voice vibrates straight to my core. “We meet again so soon! What are the odds?” Someone else catches his attention and he stops. “Oh, hey Mike, there you are!” he booms in that raspy, sexy, voice of his and I hear his footsteps leaving my side.

Josh pauses tattooing briefly, squinting at me, and says, “You two know each other?”
