BOOK REVIEW: Indecision by Elisabeth Grace

4 Stars

911 operator, Jackie Davenport is a carefree girl. She likes to date and have a good time but she’s sworn off cops when it comes to guys.

Office Jamie McTavish, 29, is the new policeman in town. Once he lays eyes on Jackie, he’s a determined man.
“‘Find what you’re looking for officer?’”
The opening scene is really cute. It wasn’t hard to get into the story. It’s lighthearted and told via Jackie and Jamie’s alternating first person point of view.

I enjoyed that fact that the romance was free of OW/OM drama.  Overall I liked both characters except for a section where Jackie’s hang-ups got on my nerves. But it doesn’t drag out so that was a plus.

All in all, the whole story moves pretty quickly though and it felt like their relationship progressed a little fast. I’m a reader that likes a build up, to be able to feel the chemistry between the main couple. I’m not saying I didn’t feel it but there are a lot of them saying they feel something between them that felt heavy handed.

Though I would have preferred more development, if you are looking for a simple, shorter, sexy story this is one to check out.

REVIEW/RELEASE: Sass by Laramie Briscoe

~Synopsis~

I, Cassandra Straight, have loved Reed Shamrock to distraction since I was a teenager. I even watched him fall in love with someone else and almost get married.

A year ago, when he walked into his house and found his fiancée’s face in his best friend’s crotch, his life changed forever and it hasn’t been the same since.

On his first night out since the horrible incident, we run into the ex-skank. Seeing the devastation in his eyes, I made a promise that I would help him get over her. I told him that a pretend relationship between us would work. It would help him move on.

I didn’t count on my heart or his getting in the way. And I sure as hell didn’t count on not being able to tell when pretend turned to reality. When it all implodes, the only thing left is the truth.

Sometimes though, the truth? It hides and we have to dig deep to find it. To make it come to the surface, we have to give it a little talking to. We have to give it a little Sass.

4 Stars

Reed Shamrock thinks he has it all—the girl he loves, long time trusting friends, a growing business, and a new home.  Some of those things are not true.

When Reed’s world comes crashing down, it’s Cassandra “Sass” Straight that’s there for him. In more ways than one. The younger sister of one of his best friend, Sass has always harbored hidden feelings for Reed and until now they’ve gone unrequited.
“‘I do know your feelings—the real ones, not the bullshit line you’re feeding me. The way your pussy gripped my cock when I was all up inside you?...You can’t fake that, baby doll.’”
In the beginning I really liked both characters and saw potential for their romance.  With a year having passed from his break-up, things between Reed and Sass heated up quick (and hot) but they seemed mature about it, and I was looking forward to seeing them solidify the relationship, Reed having learned from past misperceptions and Sass embracing the chance she was given.

But I have to admit as the story progressed my impression of how good for each other they were began to change.  Sass was spunky, but then she became insecure and seemed to get dragged down by Reed.  She was definitely good for him, but I wasn’t sure he always handled things in ways that were good for her.

This is just as much Sass and Reed’s love story as it is a journey of Reed getting over his ex (or getting away from). That’s a little too much OW drama for me. It didn’t help that the betraying parties felt a little flat and clichéd, nor did they ever sufficiently get what was coming to them, in my opinion. I definitely needed Reed to man-up a little bit more, and I needed more development from Reed and Sass as a couple towards the end, an end that felt a bit abrupt or rushed.

I’m very glad it was told by Sass and Reed’s alternating first person point of view because you really do need to know what’s going on inside both of their heads or you’d be annoyed with some of their actions.

Sass is the second book I’ve read from author Laramie Briscoe and while it was an engaging story, I prefer her previous book Sketch, also a stand alone, and recommend that one if you are looking for a little more intensity with the couple as well as no OW/OM drama.  None the less, Sass is a good read too and certainly worth checking out.

~Excerpt~

Sass gives me a bored, disbelieving look as she pushes her sunglasses down on her nose so her eyes are exposed to mine.

"Are you sure you put fish in this pond? Have you fed them? Have they died? Did they leave you for someone who actually cared? Two hours, Reed, and we haven't gotten a bite."

Her tone is accusing, and I can’t help but laugh. "I hope they haven't died. I spent a shit ton stocking it, and yes, I do make sure they're fed. Maybe we're not casting in the right place," I defend myself. Cutting my eye towards her, I throw out another option. "Maybe our bait sucks."

She’d brought the bait, and I can see her get her back up.

"Chicken livers have never failed me before, thank you very fuckin' much. They are a family hand-me-down, tested, tried, and true for many generations."

"Well, honey, it seems like this is a first."

I don't see the handful of mud until it hits the side of my head. I'm shocked as I shake my head, trying to get it out of my hair. "Sass." My voice is a warning. "Did you mean to throw mud at me?"

She holds another handful. "Don't you ever talk bad about my decision to use chicken livers as bait." She smirks, taking aim again.

I'm quick as I leap from my chair and tackle her to the soft ground. She squeals as I push her further into the ground, getting both of us muddy. "I give!" she yells.

As we roll around, I laugh. It's been so long since I've been able to have fun with someone like this. It never even entered my mind with Lacey. She wasn't a fun girl, she took things way too seriously, and Sass is like a balm for my soul. I roll again so she's underneath me. "I think we should head back. If we let this mud dry, we'll never get it off." My mouth is inches away from hers. Her dark eyes look into my light ones, and she lifts her head to press her lips against mine. All too soon the kiss is over.

BLOG TOUR: The Stars in the Sky by Leslie McAdam

~Blurb~
When foul-mouthed, tattooed, vegan Marie Diaz-Austin accepted a summer internship on a ranch north of Santa Barbara to work with underprivileged and special needs kids she was expecting hard work. She wasn't expecting the gorgeous, but conservative rancher, Will Thrash who wants nothing to do with left-wing hippies like her.
While they both may be stubborn when it comes to climate change, they're much less rigid about considering a summer fling. Although they hate each other’s politics, they can't deny their immediate and growing attraction to each other. But when the stakes are raised and they're forced to make a choice what will give? Their principles or themselves?

Marie Diaz-Austin, 32, takes a summer internship working with kids at a ranch, while completing her most recent degree. Will Trash, 34, owns said family ranch after his parents retirement. On the surface, they are about as opposite as it gets. Marie is a tie-dye loving, tree hugging, vegan, liberal while Will is meat eating, taxes hating, cowboy, conservative.

“We were two galactic bodies orbiting each other, pulled by gravity, but repelled by an equal force.”
But their largely opposite viewpoints and approaches to life doesn’t halt the attraction they feel towards each other.
“It felt dirty. I mean, how naughty would it be to fuck your political opponent, literally?”
Well let me tell you that it’s quite dirty! If you’re looking for steam, this book is full of naughty fun…and a kinky cowboy!
“‘I don’t know whether to spank you or fuck you for this.’”
It’s a great mix of sex and romance. In fact, it really is what romance is all about—getting to know each other, accepting each other for who you are and for your differences without changing the other person. The conflict came with their values, not contrived outside sources. It’s a great light-hearted low angst love story that I didn’t want to put down.

Told via Marie’s first person point of view, both of the main characters are really cute. Marie is a strong, feisty heroine. And while I wouldn’t have been attracted to Will’s politics either, he still had my heart too—an honest, adorable guy with a lot of integrity, and I liked the way he pursued her.

The dynamics between them was pretty original and quite timely in an election year. But don’t worry if you aren’t a fan of politics, the author handles it very well and keeps it light with cute touches of political humor.

“But damn, if Fox News wasn’t on, it would’ve been perfect.”
The Stars in the Sky is book 2 in the Giving You series. I haven’t read the first one so this can easily be read as a stand-alone. Amelia and Ryan, the couple from book one, make appearances as supporting characters and were a nice addition to this story.

~Character Interview~
5 Questions with Will & Marie from Lesley McAdam’s The Stars in the Sky
Welcome Will and Marie to the Book-Bosomed Book Blog! Thanks for being here.
So let’s get started and our first question puts Will in the hot seat…
Q1. Will, if Marie was elected president, how would you feel about being the First Man, and what would your platform be?
Will:  (Stares at interviewer.)

Marie: (Laughs and gives Will a shove.)
Will: (Stares at boots.) Shit.

Marie:   Answer the question, dude.  It’s no fun unless you answer the question.
Will: (Raises an eyebrow at Marie.  Shakes head.  Looks at Marie.)  So this is how it’s gonna be?
Marie:  Yep.  Your feelings, big guy.  What are they?  I’m in charge.  You’re First Dude, I mean First Man.  How do you feel?
Will: (Mutters.)  Shit.
Marie:  (To interviewer.) Hang on for a second.  (Grabs Will’s hand and pulls him out of the room.  Returns seven minutes later, both panting and hair messed up.)
Will: What was the question?
Interviewer: If Marie was elected president, how would you feel—
Will: Yeah, okay.  Most important thing is that we take care of things for the future.
Marie:  (Looking at Will in astonishment, whispering.) You got that answer right.
Will: (Touches her cheek.) I know.
Marie:  But how would you feel about me being in charge?
Will: Darlin’, you’re in charge and you know it.  How I feel about it don’t matter much.
Marie:  (Satisfied.) Yeah.
Marie: Wait.  No.  How. Do. You. Feel?
Will: (Pauses.)  Lucky.
Marie:  (Melts into chair.)
Q2. Living in California, you know both what it’s like to be woken in the middle of the might by an earthquake. Marie, using the Richter Scale, rate the last quake that woke you up screaming in the middle of the night. ;-)
Marie:  Oh, that’s hot.  Uhhh, off the fucking charts.
Q3. Back to Will—have a little fun with completing this sentence.  “I have to admit Marie looks pretty hot when wearing tie-dye_______ and cowboy __________, eating _______, and listening to ________.”
Will: I’d have to admit Marie looks hot in anything.
Marie:: (Looks at him, combo of amused and hard look.) Can you answer any question directly?
Will: (Looking at Marie while answering.)  She looks hot wearing that damn tie-dye shirt and nothing underneath.  ‘Specially when it’s tied up so you can see her belly and her tatts.  I’d like to see her in those Rocky Mountain jeans, you know, the ones with no pockets to get in the way of the view?  If I got her to wear my cowboy hat and those jeans and nothing else?  That’ll do.  Eatin’?  She can eat—shouldn’t say that in public.  Uh.  Liked watchin’ her with that ice cream cone.
Marie: Listening to?
Will: George Strait.  “Love Without End, Amen.”
Marie: Oh, that’s so sweet!
Will: (Shrugs.)  True, though.
Q4. True story, I once had a bumper sticker that read, “Who Ever Heard of a Good Piece of Elephant?”  Now Will, given how much you enjoy Marie’s company, I think you might actually have to consider getting one of those ;-)   Meanwhile, Marie, you’ve crossed to the other side—at least in the bedroom. Aside from an elephant, what other animal would you use to describe Will’s trunk?
Marie: (Bursts out laughing.)  Dude, he’s hung like a horse.
Will:  Shucks.
Marie: It’s so fucking true.
Will:  Shucks.
Marie: It’s not original but damn.  And where can I get that bumper sticker?
Interviewer: They might be vintage by now but if I find them again I'll make sure you get one for your car...or Will's truck ;-)
Q5. This last question is for both of you. If the next chapter of your life came out of one of those old Choose Your Own Adventure stories but with an erotic spin, which option would you choose (and why):
A. Doggie style in a voting booth on Election Day…while voting!
B. Bill & Monica style during a White House Tour while on a trip to DC…before meeting the president!
C. Hands and fingers in the back of the theater at The Hall of Presidents in Disneyland…while listening to Lincoln give the Gettysburg Address! (Hmm, or maybe the animatronics presidents are watching you???)
Will:  Not goin’ to fucking Disneyland.
Marie: It’s not what you wouldn’t choose, it’s what you would choose.
Will:  Votin’ booth might be interestin’.
Marie: I’m too loud a fuck though.
Will:  That’s why it might be interestin’.
Marie: Ohmigod and we could see who changed their vote.
Marie: (Stares at Will.)
Will:  (Stares at Marie.)
Marie: Voting booth.
Will:  Voting booth.
Interviewer- A big thanks to Will and Marie for being such good sports and to Leslie McAdam for a fabulous story as well as Social Butterfly for coordinating everything. And a reminder to voters in the California area, just remember if you feel the voting booth next to you shaking on election day it's not an earthquake it's just Will and Marie ;-)

Leslie McAdam is a California girl who loves romance, Little Dude, and well-defined abs. She lives in a drafty old farmhouse on a small orange tree farm in Southern California with her husband and two small children. Leslie always encourages her kids to be themselves - even if it means letting her daughter wear leopard print from head to toe. An avid reader from a young age, she will always trade watching TV for reading a book, unless it's Top Gear. Or football. Leslie is employed by day but spends her nights writing about the men you fantasize about. She's unapologetically sarcastic and notoriously terrible at comma placement (that's what editors are for!).

Always up for a laugh, Leslie tries to see humor in all things. When she's not in the writing cave you'll find her fangirling over Beck, camping with her family, or mixing up oil paints to depict her love of outdoors on canvas.

BOOK REVIEW: Things Liars Say by Sara Ney

Series#ThreeLittleLies #1

~Synopsis~
Lies, lies, lies; everybody tells them....

Greyson Keller didn't intend to lie; it just came out that way. So when the object of that lie shows up on her doorstep, she is confused, shocked, and embarrassed.

Calvin Thompson is an Ivy Leaguer, attending University over an hour away, playing rugby and basically not giving a crap. So imagine his surprise when some guy named Greyson begins rumors online that they're dating -- the only logical solution is to drive an hour and confront him...

Be there when Greyson and Cal finally meet face-to-face because.
Sparks. Will. Fly.

~Book Review~
5 Stars

Greyson Keller tells a little white lie. To appease her matchmaking sorority sisters her spur of the moment fib regarding her relationship status doesn’t seem like such a big deal. Till her imaginary boyfriend shows up at her front door.

Cal Thompson didn’t know he was in a relationship. Till he read it on Twitter. But this little misunderstanding actually serves to bring two available people together in this cute, sweet, and sexy romantic tale.
“…a story of our friendship, bond, and love.”
What I adored (absolutely adored) about this book—
There is no unnecessary drama. No meddling OW or OM.  Just a cute story of boy meets girl, engages in flirty correspondence with girl, becomes friends with girl, falls in love with girl and vice versa.   Greyson is outgoing, confident, and spunky. (No whiney, wishy-washy insecure females here.) Cal is a down-to-earth, average guy. (He’s not a douchebag or a manwhore or thinks he’s god’s gift to women.) Both main characters are single people not looking for sex or love but find it when and where they least expect it. They aren’t broken or damaged or hauling around baggage from previous relationships.  They are just normal people. I wish more authors wrote swoon worthy romance stories like this.
“You know why I’m here.”
Told via Grey and Cal’s alternating first person point of view, the story is light-hearted and fun told in many sections via emails, texts, and social media posts. It was so refreshing to read a new adult romance simply about meeting someone you connect with and falling in love.
“You’re not my dirty little secret. You’re my guilty pleasure.”
Awww!

They really make a cute couple and their first kiss was hotter than a lot of love scenes I’ve read. When they finally hook up, it definitely oozed steam because there was actually a build up…a huge build up of their friendship, chemistry, and feelings for one another.

While it’s listed as novella length, the characters and the romance are fully developed. That’s not to say I didn’t close the story craving more of Cal and Grey cause I certainly did, and I’d have preferred the epilogue to be told by them. So I’d definitely read another novella about their future if it was like this one. (Hint, hint to the author)

BOOK REVIEW: Debt by Nina G. Jones

~Blurb~
I don’t know what I was thinking when I hired someone to attack me. Maybe I was bored, or lonely, or there was a void so deep inside of me that I needed something explosive to fill it.

It was supposed to be safe. A thrill. A way to break through the monotony of everyday life. It was an illusion of danger that I could walk away from as soon as it was over.

Except that it wasn’t. Because I had been in danger long before I ever invited it into my life.

***

My mission is almost complete. The bubbling boil of vengeance that heats my blood might finally simmer.

She is the last piece of the puzzle. Once I destroy her, everyone who ever hurt me will have paid their debt.

It was supposed to be quick and easy, but as soon as I met her it got complicated.

Very complicated.

Mia Tibbett decides to indulge in a secret little sex fetish following a suggestion from a friend. So she logs onto a sexual fantasy website and hires someone to fake rape her—as in the sex is real but she’s consenting.

Tax Draconi has a vendetta against Mia and takes advantage of her pseudo rape scenario, replacing the ‘attacker’ with himself. Except his original plan to kill her shifts paths after engaging in the rape fantasy with her.
“‘Do I fuck like someone who’s faking it?’” –Tax
This is definitely a gritty, twisted story with an underlying depressing mood to the tale. It’s not the best dark romance I’ve ever read, but it’s still decent. As a thriller it’s pretty good. It’s probably most aptly categorized as an erotic thriller—trust me, there’s plenty of rough, detailed sex.
“This man is my stalker, my terrorizer, my lover.” –Mia
As a romance, I would have preferred more development in the relationship department. It’s over 400 pages after all; yet, the ending felt a bit abrupt and through much of the story there was a distinct pattern of sex—Mia and Tax individually lamenting over their feelings—sex again—feelings debate—sex…rinse-repeat.  They tended to lack in the conversation department, and while I did sense their chemistry, I couldn’t always quite figure out what they saw in each other—as it felt like more tell than show.

Tax is an intriguing, broken hero. Despite his cruelness and the blood on his hands, I still felt sympathy for him and the hands in life he was dealt.

Mia came across a little weak in my estimation. Despite the obvious humiliation Tax is dishing out for her and the fact that he has some kind of grudge against her, Mia continues to see him through flowery rose colored glasses, certain that he just needs to get in touch with his feelings and be loved.

Told via Mia and Tax’s first person point of view, Debt has some good depth to its story, and the overall plot is crafted well.  But some editing to improve the pace and eliminate what felt like repetition in parts would have made it a more solid four star read for me.

BOOK REVIEW: My Dirty Detour by Grace Risata

3.75  Stars

Violet McFadden, 34, lives a pretty ordinary life. That is until a little detour while running an errand one evening places her at the Grim Rock Distillery and into the sights of Sergio and Rocky.  But Violet is looking for a little adventure and excitement, and Rocky Duncan, 29, is looking for a book keeper at his not so friendly business. An exchange of self-defense lessons for some secretarial work puts them both on a new road.
“He was either going to murder me or bury my body or we’d have a lovely moonlit evening. Fingers crossed for the latter!”
Rocky is a bit anti-social, guarded, and intimating. He’s the type of guy you don’t mess with, built and emanating an air of danger.

Violet isn’t exactly your typical heroine. Quirky is probably the best way to describe her. While she’s always been the wallflower and had a limited social life, she’s far from bland or mousey.  At times she’s a ball of contradictions, a bit of a plain Jane who knows cars and guns as well as a germophobe who shops at thrift store. A reader herself, she has no tolerance for BS misunderstandings in romance novels, and I liked that about her.
“‘Grow up, fake book people!’”
But while Violet is pretty vocal and thus there is thankfully no BS misunderstanding break ups here, Violet could, however, stand to grow up a bit. She didn’t always act her age, and while sometimes I found her humorous, other times I just wanted to tape her mouth shut.

Told via Violet’s 1st person POV but with the occasional 3rd person sections for Rocky, the story is pretty long and a thorough edit would make it more manageable as there were places I skimmed on descriptions. Also Violet repeats everything that happens to her best friend and mother and not only was it repetitive, but it also made Violet seem really immature.  After a while her mother and friend began to drive me nuts with how nosey and meddlesome they were.  Rocky’s friends were far more interesting and made an entertaining addition to the story.

All in all, the story has a lot of potential, but could benefit from some tweaking in certain aspects. My Dirty Detour is an original standalone romantic-comedy-suspense.
