REVIEW/RELEASE: Hate F*@k (Vol.3) by Ainsley Booth

4 Stars
“A bad boy can be so very good.

A good girl can get really dirty.”
Vol. 3 picks up right where Vol. 2 left off so action-adventure is the name of the game. At least in the first few chapters. Then we see the soft and vulnerable sides to these hate f*@king characters. It’s no longer just about the burning desire. It’s…
“One-of-a-kind chemistry. The magic that happens on my skin everywhere his mouth and hands touch me. The tight slide and thrust of his erection inside me. Shallow movements that rub just the right spot. And if he’s the dark water, rushing towards shore, I’m the tide.” –Hailey
By this final installment I think it’s safe to say that the title is a bit of a misnomer now. Cole and Hailey are pretty cozy. And this last part is largely about them coming together as a real couple. But it’s still hot and dirty too…
“Her voice is barely above a whisper, and her breathing is coming hard and fast now. Like I want to, all over her.” –Cole
There’s a lot of intrigue going on in this serial and being a serial made it a little harder to keep straight, remember, and follow.  In the end of this three parter though, the scandal plots feel more like background, the erotic aspect taking center stage. Don’t get me wrong, the sexy scenes are pretty hot, but the political scandal plot that offered the promise of a page-turning read sort of fizzled out.  Hopefully there’s more to the story though that will unfold in future serials featuring the other members of The Horus Group.

~Synopsis~

Strong. Arrogant. Hard.

Ryder Cole is the King of Atlanta’s nightlife — and the one man who can erase my past.

I’m running from secrets that could destroy me and there’s no room in my life for someone like him: too damn cocky, and sexy as hell. I should keep my distance, but smart goes out the window the minute he looks my way. And when he puts his hands on me…

A girl could forget her own name. But what happens when the past catches up with me, and all the things I’m hiding from tear our lives apart again? I can’t keep running forever, and Ryder always wins.
~Book Review~

4 Stars
“There are two smells in the world I love more than any others: a woman right before sex and this warehouse right before a fight.”
Ryder Cole, a former fighter himself, runs an “underground” yet upscale fighting ring as well as a string of bars and nightclubs.  His opening line pulled me in right from the start. And then his “chance” encounter meeting Cassie McEntire was a fun beginning to their story.
“‛Promise me one thing…That the next time you try to suffocate me, you’ll use your thighs instead of a pillow.’”
These two had great banter and I adored how they interacted with each other.  Cassie’s brother is in deep bet debt with Ryder and while he offered up his house, it’s what’s in the house that Ryder comes to want.

Cassie, back home after two years in England, wants Ryder too. And so it doesn’t take long for their attraction to escalate. The result is plenty of hot and sexy scenes!

Told via Ryder and Cassie’s alternating first person POV, I thoroughly enjoyed the first 70% of the book, but things took a disappointing turn around that mark. I lost a lot of respect for Cassie over the secret she kept and the way she acted about it. It tainted the romance for me and left me frustrated with the character. I’m most definitely not a fan of heroines being presented as naïve and too trusting of someone they clearly already know isn’t worthy of any leeway. Plus she had no excuse for not putting some things in motion sooner—for pete’s sake her best friend worked in that profession! It felt like Cassie’s previously spunky and smart character was dumbed down for familiar drama in the climax, which frankly wasn’t needed.

Cassie and Ryder had plenty of fun and flirty dynamics and I believe there was enough potential with Ryder’s profession that the story didn’t need the contrived, familiar plot that it turned into after Cassie’s reveal. Sometimes the romance is in the ride and it doesn’t need a crash to make it dramatic. Stories can be a journey rather than a rush to the finish.  This one would have been close to perfect if it had taken that route.

All in all, Ryder is the swoon-worthy aspect of the book.  He’s a total book boyfriend who’s sexy, strong, and has integrity. While I liked Cassie in the beginning, she crossed too many lines and asked too much of Ryder to overlook for me to be endeared to her by the end.

Rating breakdown: 4 Stars— 4.5 for the first 2/3, 3 stars for the later portion.

BOOK REVIEW: Hitchhiker by Stacy Borel

2 Stars

I must admit, the title and premise drew me. A hitchhiker was a refreshing take on forbidden romance, one I’d not read before. But while it had tons of potential, the execution was a letdown.
  *May contain spoilers*

Like the story, the heroine–Chandler’s character had so much potential…a woman lost and suppressed in her life and relationship.  She did a brave (although at times reckless) thing and went off to find herself, but then she loses herself again with a damaged, emotionally abusive man whose moods flip on a dime. Yes, that’s right, the “hero” of the story— Dawson Michaels, the sexy, alluring hitchhiker— turns out to be free-loading, double-standard wielding, can’t keep it in his pants douchebag.
“'Seriously, Chandler, I’m not going to just cut them out cold turkey.'” –Dawson on the other women he’s sleeping with.
Chandler is a total doormat, letting Dawson walk all over her. She accepts his double standards and makes apologies for things she really shouldn’t.  This most definitely is not a “How Chandler Got Her Groove Back” story. In fact, I wanted to shake the girl and make her grow a backbone.  A trust-fund baby, she has the world at her disposal but apparently her self esteem is so bad that she can’t find anything meaningful in life to be fulfilled and wastes all her energies on her insta-lust for a man that gets his needs meet from whoever he feels like, no apologies made.
“'Yeah, I f*cking expect you to keep your mouth shut. You have no say, Chandler. None. I’m single. Whatever you think we shared was exactly that, a moment. I go out and do whatever the f*ck I want. If I want to go sleep with half the girls in town, I f*cking will, and you have no say.'” –Dawson on being a two-timing man
I absolutely couldn’t look past him sleeping with other women. The fact that their first sex scene follows on the heels of her realization that he does this, coupled with the fact that she has sex with him unprotected (yuk), left me feeling disgusted by scenes that were supposedly meant to be a turn-on.

There’s really no true romance as there are many places where it’s more “tell” than “show” in regards to the development of their relationship.  And there are inconsistencies with that as well. Readers are “told” that he wants a wife and kids one day, but are “shown” that he doesn’t do relationships.  Perhaps a few chapters from Dawson’s point of view might have lended insight into his words and actions, but really both Dawson and Chandler felt underdeveloped.

All the swoon worthy “falling in love” parts are largely missing. Dawson is no book boyfriend. In fact, he should be a poster boy for the type of guy women need to stay away from.  The story basically paints a picture of a guy who’s hot and gorgeous on the surface, but offers nothing at the core.  The only connection I saw between them was one of emotional dependence and toxic attachments.
“'Unbelievable. I spend a couple of nights in your room, and you think we’re together.'” –Dawson on how sharing a bed in a 5 bedroom house and cuddling means nothing.
Lastly, Dawson’s supposed redemption—guys like that don’t change so fantasy goggles are greatly needed for this ending. But make sure to take them off once you finish reading. The story is obviously fictional and suspension of disbelief is to be expected, but sadly it feels like the story romanticizes a bad scenario. There are plenty of women in real life stuck in hopeless situations whether in a loveless/lustless relationship like Chandler is in with Seth or in an emotionally abusive relationship being taken advantage of like Chandler is with Dawson. It's disturbing that Chandler doesn't rise above either and thus her character doesn't grow or evolve. We all know it's dangerous to pick up a hitchhiker in the real world, but there's another "danger" happening in this book.  Keep on driving.

RELEASE/REVIEW/INTERVIEW: Gone for You by Jayne Frost

A debut novel from Jayne Frost...

For Cameron Knight, guitarist for Caged, women are simply an itch you have to scratch sometimes. Fun and casual is the way he likes it, and it's saved him a lot of heartache.

Until he meets Lily...

About Gone for You
As the guitarist for the rock band Caged, I know the rules: no relationships. No complications. Leave ‘em smiling when you go, but always go. Besides, it’s not like I’m ever in one place for more than a few days at a time. As the next hottest thing out of Austin, the band and I are riding the wave, and the music is all that matters.

Until her…

Lily Tennison has “complication” written across her beautiful face. But I can’t get involved. The timing’s all wrong. But she’s under my skin, and I can’t resist her troubled eyes and sweet smile. And I do have a little time to kill. Not much, just a few days in Dallas.

So I’ll scratch the itch and move on, like I always do.

Simple, right?
~Book Review~
5 Stars

“‘Before you get all starry eyed, you should know I haven’t had a girlfriend since the eleventh grade. So I probably suck at it.’”
Cameron Noble, known to his fans as Cameron Knight, is the guitarist in a Texas rock band, Caged. Feel free to get starry eyed though because Cameron is such a cutie, and while he didn’t used to do the dating thing, he sure is sweet, sexy, and chivalrous about it when he meets Lily Tennison.

Lily might just be Cameron’s match. Though her job puts her at his disposal, she often gets the upper hand on him. I chuckled out loud at the personal shopping part. Lily is smart, talented, and sweet. Her socialite parents have disowned her for switching majors and her stress induced speech impediment is an embarrassment to her mother.
“‘Maybe the words don’t come because they don’t want to leave those beautiful lips any more than I do.’”
Ahhh. Take a moment to swoon a little more at Cameron. Need another moment? Try a glimpse at a frustrated but very turned-on Cameron:
“‘I swear, Lily. I will tie you up if you don’t quit.’ I trudged toward the first group of lights. Telling her I wouldn’t f*ck her was not only a lie. It was a damn lie. It would be a miracle if we made it to her front door and a bigger miracle if we made it to a bed.”
I read this story when I was suffering from not one but two book hang-overs, and this was a great cure! It’s cute, sexy, and light-hearted. It’s told entirely from Cameron’s first person POV, and is a great start to the Sixth Street Band series.

Are Cameron and Lily simply “killing time” together or can Cameron swallow his fears and make it something more permanent?

If you enjoy rocker romances, you’ll want to make sure to be one-clicking a copy of this one. Cameron is easily book boyfriend material, and Lily is a very likable heroine that you root for.  I hope to see more of them in future books.

So…what to expect next in the Sixth Street Band series?  Keep reading for an interview with author Jayne Frost. But first enjoy this excerpt or 1-click now!

Ch 2: When Cameron Knight Meets Lily

[The band has arrived at their hotel, a special arrangement due to over-eager paparazzi.]

My gaze fell on the figure that exited through the wooden doors a few yards away. Her blond hair swung from side to side, mimicking the sway of her hips. A smile played across her lips, crinkling the corners of her piercing blue eyes. My heart nearly stopped.

“Dude, close your mouth.” Sean knocked shoulders with me when he stepped to my side.

Giving him a sidelong glance, I saw Logan smiling appreciatively at the girl, looking her up and down. No way. Stepping away from them, I nearly knocked her over in my attempt to reach her before she got caught in Logan’s crosshairs.

Startled, she looked up at me, tucking a wisp of hair behind her ear. Fuck me, the girl was hot. Taking off my sunglasses, I gave her the most seductive grin I could muster.

Nothing.

“Mr. Noble?” She glanced down at the paperwork in her hand without acknowledging my lame attempt at flirtation. “Knight, actually.” I was hoping for a glimmer of

“Knight, actually.” I was hoping for a glimmer of recognition

Her brows knitted together, causing an adorable little crease to form on her forehead.

I was Cameron Noble. At least that’s what my birth certificate said. But I dropped that shit as soon as Caged had a single on the charts, changing my name to Knight. My old man, Tyler Noble, the drunk that chased fame his whole life, was not going to get a nod of acknowledgment from me for anything I achieved.

“But you can call me Noble.” Not to be deterred by her cool demeanor, I quirked a brow and leaned in. “Or anything else you want, as long as you say it with a smile.”

Laughing nervously, she stuck out her hand. “I’m Lily Tennison. I’ll be your personal events coordinator while you’re here.”

Taking her hand, I squeezed it gently. “I like the sound of that.”

She took a step back, slipping her hand free. “Your brother explained the situation. If you would follow me to my office, I’d be happy to go over a list of the amenities and services we offer here at The Mansion. I’ll also take care of any special requests you might have.” Looking over my shoulder at Logan and Sean, she gave them a cheery smile. “Gentlemen, welcome to The Mansion.”

Turning, she walked briskly toward the building, ignoring the snickers that erupted from our group.

“Special requests?” Logan chuckled, lowering his tone to nearly a whisper. “I’ve got her special request—right here.” He grabbed his crotch, waggling his brows at me.

Slapping him on the back of the head, I followed her into the lobby, putting some distance between me and the two asshats I was with. The guys couldn’t hold it together for one fucking minute without acting like horny teenagers.

My cock stirred when the slit up the back of Lily’s pencil skirt opened as she walked, showing a nice expanse of her silky thighs. Scowling, I looked down at my boots. Logan and Sean might have been acting like horny teenagers, but I was the one sporting a hard-on. Perfect.

The lobby was decorated with huge vases of freshly cut flowers and cushy, leather chairs with side tables made of rich, dark wood. Following Lily past the polished marble front desk, I noticed a number of guests staring in our direction.

“Over here we have our lounge and our steakhouse.” Lily looked over her shoulder, giving a nod in the direction of the dimly lit space. “They are open for dinner only. Per your brother’s request, I’ve secured a chef to take care of your meals, en suite. However, you can order anything off the menu and have it delivered, if you prefer.”

Nodding, I kept my eyes trained on her face, hoping my cock would go into hibernation. Lily’s tongue darted out, sweeping her lip when she looked down at her paperwork. A perfect, pink tongue. Caressing the softest, pinkest lips I’d ever seen in my life.

She disappeared ahead of us, turning down a hallway where the executive offices were housed. I took the opportunity to stick my hand in my pocket and adjust my erection.

“You got a problem there, son?” Logan clapped my shoulder as he strode past me.

“Mind your own damn business,” I muttered, moving to his side. “And stop with the fucking sex jokes.”

Logan gave me a sidelong glance, peering at me over his sunglasses. “Dude, I’m not the one with the semi.”

Rolling my eyes, I stepped through the door of Lily’s large office. A leather sofa was pushed against the wall. Three winged chairs with rich upholstery sat in front of the large cherry desk. Oil paintings and other artwork hung on every wall. I wandered over to a group of four charcoal sketches next to the window.

A large “L” with a small flower dotted the right-hand corner of each one. The gritty cityscapes didn’t match the rest of the office’s motif.

“These are really nice.” I nodded appreciatively, leaning in closer to examine the details before turning to her.

“Um, t-thanks,” she stammered. The crease in her brow grew more pronounced when she noticed me looking at her. She dropped her eyes to the paperwork on her desk. I grinned, ambling over to take a seat in the winged chair in front of the desk.

“I’ve taken the liberty of contacting a personal shopper at Neiman Marcus.” She lifted her gaze, taking in our tattered jeans and t-shirts. “If you could provide me with your sizes, I’ll have some things brought over for you until you can retrieve your luggage from the Omni.”

“Is there something wrong with the way we’re dressed?” Logan removed his sunglasses, leaning forward and propping his elbows on his knees.

“Absolutely not.” She shifted in her seat. “I assumed since you didn’t have any clean clothes, you might want to order a few things. It’s totally up to you. There’s no dress code on the property, with the exception of the hotel dining area.”

Clasping her hands on top of the paperwork on her desk, she gave us a sincere smile. “Look, y’all, I’m here to help. I’m sorry to hear about your friend.” Her gaze fell on mine, holding it for a second. “Is he all right, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Fine,” I said, studying the blue depths of her irises. “Just a little banged up.”

She nodded sympathetically. “Let me get this paperwork out of the way. I’m sure you’ve had a trying day.”

Turning to the computer on the side table, she punched in the information from the sheet of paper on her desk. A few minutes later she stood, handing each of us a fat envelope.

“It was nice to meet y’all.” She extended a hand to Logan, and then to Sean. “Please let me know if I can be of any assistance during your stay. The bungalows are out back, at the far end of the property. Would you like me to call for a cart to take you there?”

“I’m sure we’ll manage,” Logan said with a chuckle, giving her a wide grin. “Thanks for all your help.”

He nodded at Sean, who thanked Lily as well before following Logan out of the office. She stepped around the desk and clasped her hands in front of her. I waited until the guys were out of earshot and closed the distance between us.

“So what do you do for fun around here?”

That perfect, pink tongue darted out again. I assumed she wasn’t aware of what she was doing, but I couldn’t tear my gaze from her lips. An arc of electricity flowed between us, drawing me to her like a magnet.

“Um...” She trailed off, seeming unsure of her words. “I’ve enclosed this brochure in the envelope I gave you. We have—”

“I mean, what do you do for fun, Lily?” Placing a hand on her arm, the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. Definitely electricity.

Staring at me for a moment, her arm dropped limply to her side. “I work.” She smiled up at me. “And I go to school. I don’t have much time for fun.”

With that, she stepped toward the door, holding it open. Nodding, I shoved the envelope in my back pocket, leaning toward her on my way out. She smelled just like the freshly cut flowers in the lobby. Like a spring day.

“That’s a shame, Lily. Everyone could use a little fun.”

It took a shitload of self-control not to look back when I sauntered down the hallway.

Before I made it five steps, the door clicked shut behind me.

 ~Author Interview~
5 Questions with Jayne Frost

Q1. How did you get started writing, and what is your favorite part of the writing process?

A. I can’t remember a time I didn’t write. I clearly remember writing my first little book when I was ten. I used yarn to hold the pages together! My favorite part of the writing process is the spark. The idea. I write all kinds of notes on the characters; who they are, what the do. And the story develops from there.

Q2. What real life bands do you follow?  Did you have a playlist while writing Gone for You?

A. Wow. There are so many. I love all kinds of music. Right now, I’m really into Shinedown. I look at songs as three or four minute stories. Of course, if Pearl Jam or Nirvana is on when I pull my car in the garage, I’m sitting in the car until the song is over. And I live in Las Vegas…where it’s 100 degrees in the shade. THAT’S commitment!

I have a playlist that I listen to for every book, or short story I write. Here is the Spotify playlist for Gone for You. (See below).

Q3. What was your inspiration for Cameron and Lily’s characters and/or their story?

A. I wanted to write a romantic book about Rock and Roll that was a little different. Instead of one band, I wanted a group of bands. The 6th Street Bands. I decided to introduce the series outside of Austin, and use the band Caged as a newcomer to this group of really popular bands already on the scene. Cameron is the creative force behind Caged, and Lily is the  lucky girl he takes back to Austin!

Q4. Do you have a favorite scene from the book?

A. I have so many! I really like the scene at the ballet. I think you get a good understanding of Lily’s background. Also, you see how much Cameron cares for her.

Q5. What can you tell or tease readers about the next book in the Sixth Street Band series? Will future books be on the other members of Caged?

A.  Next stop: Austin! The members of Caged will be back, and I will introduce the rest of the 6th Street bands. The last Chapter in Gone for You gives some pretty big clues as to where the series is headed. There are several books planned for this series.

All I can say is look out for Logan Cage. HOT! And definitely worth the wait.

Thanks Jayne! Can't wait to read the next one!

Fall With Me

~About Jayne Frost~
So…who is Jayne?

As a writer, you would think that would be a simple question…but it’s not. I spend so much time living in my characters heads, listening to their voices, that sometimes I forget about my own.

I guess I should start with the basics: the backstory. I was born and raised in California. At this point, I’m usually asked what it was like to grow up near the beach, but sadly, I don’t know. I grew up in the “other” part of California. Perfect for an aspiring writer, if you ask me. You learn a lot about keeping yourself busy when the nearest house is a mile away…and it belongs to your grandparents.

I spent all my time with my nose in a book, living vicariously through the characters, until I wrote a book of my own. I was ten at the time. It was a scintillating piece that cast the family pet as the protagonist.By the time I went to high school, I moved on to romance. Why? Because I met my very own prince charming. I wrote love poems in my journal about the green-eyed boy who stole my heart. He promised, the way all storybook heroes do, to sweep me away and take me on a grand adventure. And he did.We picked up and moved to the Lone Star State and began the story of us. The best stories begin without a road map or a compass. Veering off course makes the journey so much more interesting.

True to form, just when I thought my life was set, we started the next adventure. I traded in my cowboy boots and followed my green-eyed boy to Las Vegas. My home will always be in Texas, but my heart is anywhere that he is. Our beautiful daughter made the journey with us. Our son stayed in Texas, to write his own story.

Somehow, in the midst of the chaos that is our life, I find time to write. Writing is what I love. I might stray from romance every now and then if that is what moves me…but I always come back. Some of the stories don’t seem romantic at all. They are gritty stories about flawed characters that find each other and hold on tight. Those are the stories that speak to me. Because that’s life. I believe that every story should have a happy ending—even the difficult ones. You can find me at Twitter at @jaynefrostbooks, Facebook, Pinterest, and my website.

REVIEW/RELEASE: The Exposé 4 by Roxy Sloane

~Synopsis~

She’s torn my empire apart. Now, my secrets are out — but I still don’t know who I can trust.

Somebody is after me, and they don’t care who they hurt to get their way.

I have to protect her.

I need to possess her.

It all ends tonight.
~Book Review~
4.5 Stars

This is the conclusion to The Exposé, a sexy and suspenseful serial. In this installment, which picks up right where vol. 3 left off, the degree of danger increases, the case of the mysterious notes is revealed, and Dax and Zoe’s relationship is tested once again.

If you’ve enjoyed alpha Dax in the previous installments, he won’t disappoint in this one either. Even as chaos ensues, Dax remains…demanding:
“‛In fact, you’re not leaving this bedroom until I say so. I don’t care if I have to lock you in myself.’”
And dominant:
“‛Your place in on your hands and knees with my c*ck buried deep inside you. And don’t forget it.’”
But at the same time we continue to see the vulnerable side of Dax too, which helps make him a well rounded character.

Now both Zoe and Dax’s careers are on the line and salvaging them might mean choosing business over their personal lives.
“Maybe my empire was really just a house of cards, read to fall.”
Zoe remains a strong and determined character who learns her lessons in integrity and ethics. I do wish there would have been a little more details and development on things from her life. The ending felt just a little rushed with some loose ends that didn’t wrap up.

All in all though, the installments as a whole with a little more development would make a page-turning phenomenal sexy and exciting erotic adventure/suspense novel. But it’s a fun and super hot serial as it is.

But Dani knows better. Allowing herself a night to be carefree and feel the intensity of their attraction won’t change anything when it comes to dealing with a player. So when Jax doesn’t recognize Dani the next time he sees her, it shouldn’t be a total shock. The fact that he’s her new roommate’s brother? That’s a shock.

Dani doesn’t regret that night with Jax, just the need to lie about it. Since her roommate has made it clear what she thinks about her brother’s “type” of girl, the last thing Dani wants is to admit what happened.

Jax knows he’s walking a fine line on the soccer team. One more misstep and he’s off the roster, his plans to go pro be damned. Except he can’t seem to care. About anything… except for the one girl who keeps invading his dreams.

Despite Jax’s fuzzy memory of his hot hookup with his sister’s friend, he can’t stay away from her, even if that means breaking his own rules. But there are bigger forces at work–realities that can end Dani’s college career and lies that can tear them apart. Jax realizes what he’s losing if Dani walks away, but will he sacrifice his future to be with her? And will she let him if he does?

“Why, Jared Hoffman, do you not want this?” I tease, slowly unbuttoning his shirt.
He smiles, his hands bracing themselves on the bed at either side of my head. “I didn’t say that... it’s just I don’t want to rush anything.”
Jared’s shirt falls open when I finally reach the last button. His perfect abs are shadowed and defined by the moonlight. My eyes start up his chest. “Rush?” I whisper softly as my hands graze their way up his biceps that frame my face. “Jare… this has been seven long years in the making. I think we’ve waited long enough.”
He pauses for a second. I hear his breath hitch in his throat as his dark eyes study my face. For some reason, I’m surprised when I feel Jared’s lips on mine. The passion between us is renewed at my admission. It’s my turn to moan against his lips. My legs automatically slide up and down his, causing my dress to hike up slightly before my legs wrap themselves around his waist. His hands make their way up my side slowly as if ingraining into memory the curve of my body. My hands have automatically found their way to his belt. I slip my fingers through it and release the hook, swinging it open. Before I know it, I’m unbuttoning his jeans. That’s when I feel his hands squeeze me tight. His lips leave mine for the first time since I spoke, and I feel them slowly trace their way down my neck. My fists clench against the skin on his waist.
“Oh, Jared,” I groan.
His body freezes above me for a fraction of a second. His head lifts out of the crook of my neck to meet my eyes again.
“Do you know how long I’ve waited to hear you call my name like that?” he whispers.
My hands find their way to his face and mingle with his hair. “There’s more where that came from.” I shoot him a sexy smirk before pulling his lips back to mine.
