BOOK REVIEW: My Personal Bad Boy by Bethany James

~Blurb~
I’m searching for wingman or woman. I’m seeking corruption and I want you to be my guide. I’m average, from my average height, to my average weight, to my average hair and my average clothes.

I spent New Year’s babysitting when I wanted to be anywhere else. I want a tattoo or maybe a piercing. I want to kiss a girl and have a one-night stand, not necessarily in that order. I’m not a virgin but I may as well be.

I want to experiment and gain experience. I’m sick of being the wallflower. I want to be so confident with myself and my sexuality that when I walk into a room head’s turn. Most of all, I want to live.

Reply to this message if you think you have what it takes.

~Book Review~
5 “I can’t believe I’m giving this” Stars

When I started out reading this, I honestly didn’t know how I was going to rate it. Pretty early on it was clear this was more erotic fiction than romance and to be fair Amazon does categorize it that way. This read was kinda like Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. No scratch that, it’s like Mr. Toad’s Hot Horny Wild Ride!  My eyes popped wide, my mouth gaped open, the room got a lot hotter, and I read a few lines more than once. This is not my usual safe romantic read, but I had to know…What was Wes going to orchestrate next???  But I’m getting ahead of myself.

So stuck home babysitting her sister’s kids on New Year’s Eve, Nic decides her life needs more excitement.  She wants to be a bad girl. She wants to try new things. (See the book description for what she wrote.) Thus, she places an internet ad searching for a bad boy to corrupt her. Enter Wes Matthews, a tattoo artist who answers her ad. He’s looking for a “new toy” (his words) and perfectly willing to be her sex life coach.
“‘You want me to corrupt you?...I can teach you how to be very bad, thing is, you’ll be taking my cock while I do it.’”
It’s not long and you realize this story could also be called How Nicole (or maybe Nic’s Coochie) Got Her Groove Back because exploring these wild sexual set ups, Nic is expanding her horizons, getting the life experiences that she desires, and gaining more self-confidence.  Wes, in a sense, empowers her to break out of her boring lifestyle. Of course, you could also title this, The Sexual Adventures of Wes and Nic and Whoever the Hell Else Wes Feels Like Including.

Anyways, despite all the wild scenarios, even from the beginning I felt an undercurrent of something with just Wes and Nic. Maybe it’s the romantic in me but I wanted to root for them to be together, to be something more than a casual hook-up. And as the story went along, the stronger that vibe became.

This story definitely isn’t for everyone. You probably need to go into it with an open mind. You definitely need some suspension of disbelief as, let’s face it, in the real world, at the very least, Wes would not be so hot, well endowed, or with Nic’s best interests at heart.
“…I survived the Wesosuarus Cock…”
And Wes is quite the enigma. I think that’s a large part of the appeal of the story. What is his deal? When is he going to contact her again? What will he have planned? How far does he take sharing?  He’s probably more of an erotic fantasy than a romantic book boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean he’s not confident, creative, alluring, and finally possessive.
“He brands me with his tongue so hot against mine and I whimper as I cum.”
It’s insanely hot and filthy dirty, filled with some original sexual adventures. (Holy cow the wheelbarrow position.) You never know what’s on tap next, but Wes, the bad ass bad boy, is sure to not disappoint.

What I found so refreshing about this super smutty tale is that not only does it have a plot and intriguing characters, but despite all the orgies and ménage a tois or ménage a fill-in-the-number, it’s pleasingly void of angst. There’s no cliché scheming villains (otherwise often known in the romance world as OW drama) or hidden agendas with most of the people Nic meets. I think that went a long way in my rating and, by the end, even made me a little envious of the close circle of trusted companions that Nic finds (oh and the hot, adventurous man too).

There are some grammatical issues (especially with misuse of past/present tense) for which I should probably deduct at least a quarter point off the rating, but if you’re considering reading this book you probably haven’t selected it for the grammatical mechanics so I’ll let it slide this time.

My Personal Bad Boy is a standalone erotic romance (yes in the end I think it is) told via Nicole’s first person POV.

BLOG TOUR: Savage Mafia Prince by Annika Martin

smp-blogtour-banner
~Synopsis~
Where is Kiro?
He’s the lost Dragusha brother, heir to a vast mafia empire—brilliant, violent, and utterly savage…and he’s been missing for years.
Ann
I'm supposed to be doing simple undercover research at the Fancher Institute for the Mentally Ill & Dangerous, but I can’t keep my mind off Patient 34. He’s startlingly young and gorgeous, but it’s not just that. He’s strapped way too tightly to that bed. And there’s no name or criminal history on his chart. What are these people hiding? My reporter’s instincts are screaming.
Here's the other thing: the staffers here believe he’s so sedated that there’s not a thought in his head, but I catch him watching me when nobody’s looking. Our connection sizzles when I enter the room. When our eyes meet, I know he understands me in a way nobody else ever has.
I’m supposed to follow my editor’s orders—I have secrets, too—but everything about Patient 34 is suspicious. How can I not investigate?

~Book Review~
4.5 Stars

If you’ve been following this mafia family saga from the beginning, then you’ve probably been as intrigued about the third Dragusha brother as I have, and now Kiro finally gets his story.

Ann Saybrook, 29, is a down on her luck journalist, struggling with her own issues while undercover at a mental institution in Minnesota. But she might be on to a bigger story than the one she’s assigned once she encounters Patient 34.

Kiro Dragusha, 21, has no idea that he’s the long lost link to fulfilling an old mafia prophecy, that he has a criminal empire at his disposal, or that he has two powerful brothers searching desperately for him. All he wants it to return to his life in the wilderness with the wolves…and to take his mate, Nurse Ann, along.
“Caveman and captive is a good role-play fantasy, but this role-play is moving into reality with alarming speed, and cavewoman is not my preferred lifestyle.”
Told via Ann and Kiro’s alternating first person POV (as well as a few other familiar voices) Savage Mafia Prince is an action-adventure romantic suspense. Like the previous books in this series, it pulls you in till you can’t put it down.

Kiro is probably everything readers have imagined and more. He’s fast. He’s fierce. He’s intense. He’s determined. No matter the obstacle, he’s not to be stopped.
“It’s a dress rehearsal for sucking his cock—we both know it.”
Oh yeah, and he’s savagely sexy too! A blend of the Incredible Hulk along with “Paul Bunyan meets GQ,” you’ll want your own alpha savage who’s devoted to you.  (That little rhyme was totally unintentional but hey it would make a great motto for Kiro!)  Major point for originality with this character. If you are tired of reading the same romantic heroes, then this is a must read for uniqueness. Kiro is a fully developed riveting character—he will make you swoon, tug at your heartstrings, and turn you on!

I also want to praise the absence of OW/OM drama in this whole series. I know many readers like myself get tired of romantic plots than hinge on another man or woman causing trouble for the main couple, and this series proves that you don’t need all that melodrama to make a riveting story.  These tales have been packed with danger, intrigue, and inner turmoil that each couple has to face, and those issues provide ample conflict to propel the plot.

Each book has left me wanting a little more, and I closed this one feeling the same, craving more of this eclectic family together….So if you want more too, keep reading for an exclusive character interview!

~Character Interview~
5 Questions with Annika Martin’s Dangerous Royals

Welcome to the Book-Bosomed Book Blog everyone!
*Mouth gapes open at three stunning princes who enter the room like they own it with their loves at their side.*

Q1. Princes, describe your idea of the perfect date.
Aleksio:
"First of all, thank you for having us here at Book-bosomed blog! Now, for your question. Perfect date? I love to cook for Mira."
Mira: *smiles* "I love him to cook for me."
*Group shifts around* "This sounds like they mean it dirty somehow."

Kiro:
*Kiro wraps  his arms around Ann.* "A fire in the fireplace. I feed Ann a nice big meal."
“And after dinner, a walk,” Ann adds.
“A walk?” Kiro scowls. “After I feed my mate I like to fuck her.”
*Ann goes red.*

Viktor:
“Our perfect date is to roam around the city and see what happens.”
*Tanechka grins* “With a stop for pastries.”
“Perhaps we watch the boats on the river.”
“And if anybody looks at Tancheka the wrong way, I will fuck them up.”

Q2. Let’s see where else the princes’ hearts lie. Mira, you work to help the less fortunate. The princes have a lot of money; if each brother had to donate to a charity, which ones do you think each would choose?
Mira:
“That’s a great question, because you know the Dragushas are definitely cleaning up their act and looking at more positive things to do with their resources.” *Mira narrows her eyes at the three of them.*
*Aleksio beams at her.* “You know it’s true, baby.”

“Aleksio has actually been doing a ton to fund the legal and living costs of the victims of Lazarus’s pipeline. It’s really helped. And Viktor and Tanecka have been getting involved in refugee causes. And of course Kiro is all about saving the woods and buying land where they can roam free without being hunted. These brothers are aweseome!”

Q3. You’ve all endured a long road to be together so surely it’s time for some fun. Tanechka, if you’re in charge of the evening’s entertainment and a rock concert is on the agenda, which band do you score tickets to see? Who among the six of you is losing their concert virginity?  Who are you most likely to catch head-banging to the music? And who might go as far as stage diving?
Tanechka:
"Poor Kiro doesn’t know music at all! Viktor and I love rock, especially Metallica—we very much love them, as well as The Stooges and the Stones. We took Kiro to a concert of Metallica and he did not like it. But Kiro loves poppy songs, like Beyonce, Sia, Spoon. We all think it is very funny. "

Q4. Viktor—I recently read something shocking about you. *Spoiler alert! Anyone who hasn’t read Savage Mafia Prince, close your ear…or cover your eyes.* So you went shopping at IKEA! And for fish paintings! Since you are quite the homemaker, if you and Tanechka went shopping for a housewarming gift for Aleksio & Mira and Kiro & Ann, what would you buy them?
Viktor:
"Aleksio and Mira are having many dinner parties, but the plates get broken often. I would buy them plates made of plastic, so that they are not broken."
Aleksio:
"I’m not serving people dinner on plastic plates. But thanks for the thought, brother."
Viktor:
*scowls* "And for Kiro and Ann, many big blankets and pillows. They love to lounge around on the floor. "

Q5. Following this interview you’re all off together for a Dragusha family vacation. Kiro picked the location so obviously you’re going camping. Hand over your backpacks to Kiro so he can determine if you’re prepared and reveal the contents?  *Eyes Aleksio & Viktor in their sexy black Armani suites.* I wonder if those two have a change of clothes in there.
Aleksio:
"Mira and I are staying at the Skyslope Hotel."
Kiro:
*growls*
Aleksio:
"We’ll take the helicopter in for the day!"
Mira:
"We’ll bring breakfast!"

PLUS: 5 Rapid Fire Questions…Tell us the first thing that comes to mind.

#1 Everyone: Do you see yourself as an optimistic or pessimistic?
Tanecka & Alesksio
"Pessimist."
Everyone else: "Optimist."

#2 Everyone: In one word describe yourself (dark, wicked, and savage are off the table).
Aleksio: "Thoughtful."
Mira: "Warrior."
Viktor: "Fighter."
Tanechka: "Like a cat."
Kiro: "Wolf"
Ann: "Investigative."

#3 Princesses: What is your prince’s best physical feature?
Mira: "His eyes."
Tanechka:  "He is strong as a bull."
Ann: "Amazing shoulders."

#4 Princes: Against your front door, on all fours on a bear skin rug, or spread eagle on the bed—which way do you prefer to claim your mate?
Aleksio: "Any way. I can’t get enough of Mira!!"
Viktor: "Up against a wall."
Kiro: "On a soft rug or bed. I am done with taking her outside!!"

#5 Princesses: Favorite thing to hear your prince call out “in the moment.” ;-)
*Mira, Tanechka and Ann look at each other and then at their princes, glowering.*
Ann: “Ummm….better leave that to your imagination!”

A big thanks to Annika Martin and her dangerous royals!

BOOK REVIEW: The Two-Night One-Night Stand by Ryan Ringbloom

4.25 Stars

It’s Halloween night and having broken up with her boyfriend the previous Christmas, Holly Martin is in costume at a bar waiting for her blind date. Enter Matthew Daniels, a physician’s assistant, meeting his brothers for drinks after a long day in the ER. In scrubs, Holly mistakes him as her blind date and Mathew, having not had sex in 17 months, 6 days, 11 hours, and 43 minutes, battles with his conscious, or more specifically his peen, over whether to correct this case of mistaken identity or go with the flow. Peen pushes him in the right direction, and it turns out this is Holly’s lucky break. Her real date is a real jerk, and Matty is quite the nerdy prince.  For all the ladies sick of the manwhore type, this read’s for you. Matthew is an all round good guy.

Told via Holly and Matthew’s alternating first person POV, The Two-Night One-Night Stand is a cute romantic comedy. The pair have their fair share of mishaps in their journey from a one night stand to a dating relationship.  Alcohol is not always Holly’s best friend…
“It’s official, the combination of white wine and Fireball is the equivalent to female Viagra.”
And the “Peen-nut gallery” does not always act in Matty’s best interest.
“I think I hear Peen laugh at me. This is his fault. I blame him for hoarding most of the blood supply, leaving my brain depleted.”
Matty’s conversations with his penis were a humorous addition to this light-hearted tale. If you’re looking for the kind of romantic read that puts a smile on your face, this is definitely one to 1-click.
“Happy HallowPEEN!”

REVIEW/RELEASE BLITZ: Tonic by Staci Hart

Genre: Romantic Comedy

~Blurb~

Joel Anderson doesn’t take anything seriously.

Not his relationships, which have been few and far between since his brutal divorce. Not the drama of working in a tattoo parlor, which seems to be around every corner. When things get him down, he smiles and cracks a joke. But he’s not the kind of man you cross, or you’ll find yourself at the wrong end of his fists.

Annika Belousov takes everything seriously.

Like her job as a reality television producer, given that she typically has something to prove. Or her love life, which is defined by a series of requirements — affluent, ambitious, accomplished, to name a few. Definitely her family, who worked their whole lives to afford her every opportunity, a sacrifice she doesn’t take lightly. When she’s tapped to produce a reality show at Joel’s shop, she doesn’t think twice, just goes in for the kill, as if there were any other way.

The second Annika walks into Joel’s shop, he makes it his mission to crack her open, but she’s not having it. He’s all wrong — too crass, too hairy, too un-serious. But it doesn’t take her long to find out there’s more to him than smirks and tattoos. And what she finds could put her career and his heart on the line.

Not that Joel cares. Because for the first time in a long time, he’s found his tonic.

~Book Review~
3 Stars

Joel Anderson is a tattoo artist running his shop, Tonic. Railroaded by his brother and employees, he agrees to a reality TV show about the trade. Annika Belusov is the producer assigned to run the show.

Told via Joel and Annika’s alternating first person POV, the opening scene jumps right into the premise with a blast of insta love/lust on Joel’s part. I felt it needed a little more build-up as well as a stronger introduction to the characters. Their initial meeting and dialogue felt awkward with a lot more tell than show. I just didn’t feel their connection.  And then Annika describes herself as a “frigid bitch” and Joel as a “hairy fucking guy” and I honestly wondered why the readers were supposed to be attracted or endeared to either of these characters. Frankly if this had been a sample on Amazon rather than an ARC, I would have moved on to the next book right there.

I’m not a fan of reality TV in the real world; however, that’s not stopped me from enjoying other books with this reality TV premise. But I don’t think I’ve encountered a heroine in the position that Annika is in who was so unlikable, with such little integrity, and disregard for treating people like human beings.
“They were just meat puppets, pawns in a game to move around, crash into each other, all while trying to make sure we caught it all on camera.”
The main couple was largely the problem I had with getting into this story.  First it was Annika’s cold response to innocent people, and later it was Joel’s bratty behavior over something that seemed immature for a thirty-eight year old man.

This is listed as a romantic comedy; however, I failed to find humor in the story. I think it would more aptly be categorized as simply a contemporary romance.  There is some reality TV contrived drama/angst and a love-hate romantic angle with a predictable misunderstanding. I do give the story points for avoiding some clichéd pitfalls that I expected, but it didn't fall prey to. On that note, many minor characters exhibited more maturity and sensibility than Joel or Annika.

There are quite a few sexy scenes, and thankfully they are just Joel and Annika. It's getting harder these days to find romances that don't exploit sex scenes with other people, so I also give this romance points for sticking to the main couple.

All in all, it’s simply an “okay” romance, nothing terrible but nothing spectacular. If you are looking for a reality TV romcom or love-hate romcom, there are definitely others I’d recommend instead; but if you're simply looking for a safe read, this one should fit the bill.

Staci Hart has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, even though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

BOOK REVIEW: Savage Beast by Charleigh Rose

~Blurb~

Cole and Jade's story

Warning: Taboo, ménage, dirty talk, hot as f*ck.

Jade

I dated a mobster. A monster. A maniac.
He left me scarred, marred and done with men in general. The last thing I needed was another man in the very same lifestyle. I might let Cole Savage into my bedroom, but I can't let him into my heart.

Cole

She’s been hurt before. She thinks I'll hurt her again.
Problem is, I’m not the one who is trying to hurt her.
Her ex-boyfriend is a part of the Lucky Lucianos, an up-and-coming Italian mafia in New York city. He thought he could get away with what he did to her, but he won't be so lucky when I get my hands on him.

~Book Review~
2.5 Stars

If you’ve read the first book, Stepdaddy Savage, then you know that Jade and Cole met at a dinner party at Graham and Dahlia’s house. Well it’s a few years later till their paths cross again, and this time Cole is determined to get her in his bed.

I’ll admit that I clicked on this book to get more glimpses of Graham and Dahlia just as much as I was interested in Jade and Cole. Turns out, Jade and Cole don’t have nearly the chemistry or appeal as Graham and Dahlia did.

Told via Jade and Cole's alternating first person POV, Cole’s a little too caveman for my tastes at times. He’s not as dark and suave as Graham. He comes off as a big lug.  This story is also more erotic and less romance than the first one. As the description points out, it does contain a ménage scene which frankly would have made a lot more sense in the beginning when Cole and Dahlia are just fuck buddies and not after they become engaged! Yep, you read that right; they have a threesome with his roommate, Carter, after they say 'I love you' and he proposes. Again, I repeat, this is really an erotic tale more than it’s a romance.  On top of that,  Cole’s inner monologues articulate ridiculous things like, “Nothing says romance like anal,” which they engage in with his 12 inch cock that “almost smelled like cotton candy that sat in the sun too long” (Jade’s words) and no lube beyond his spit. Lots of eye roll worthy moments in this story for sure.

The first half of the book is largely Cole and Jade fucking when they are supposed to be working. It actually got a little boring after a while. I didn’t feel a special drawl between Jade and Cole like I did with Dahlia and Graham.  In fact, I only  had one major problem with the first book that I thought surely the authors wouldn’t be so unoriginal as to repeat that again in the second. So imagine my disgust when around roughly 50% they rolled out the heroine-almost-gets-raped troupe for the second time! Followed in the next chapter by a sex scene because you know almost getting raped is so arousing. So I’m just going to cut and paste from my review of book one where the exact same scenario played out. If authors can’t come up with something better than presenting the heroines as helpless victims of near rape, saved only at the last second by her man, then they don’t deserve a truly original review either. So here goes:

For authors who state in their bio that their philosophy is “fun, sexy, smut” that is “original” and that they “won't give you what you've already seen a million times before,” well they certainly missed those goals with this scene. This plot device isn’t original and has been done many times over.  But more importantly, attempted rape isn’t sexy!  I’ve ranted about books that use this unrealistic and unromantic plot climax in romance books before and it bears repeating. Rape/attempted rape/sexual assault does not belong in a romance novel and using it as simply a plot devices not only trivialized the real problem of sexual abuse against women, but contributes to a rape culture.

All in all, I think Graham made book one, but the rest of the heroes in this series don’t have the same appeal. I’m doubtful I’ll read the next book as the hints to Quinn's backstory do not appeal to me.
